I think what made me think of the whole Aaron Burr thing was the concept of waiting to see where they stand ("talk less, smile more, don't let them know what you're against or what you're for) as opposed to Caleb trying to sell them on the concept of actively ending a war- and how, like you said, Fjord is uncomfortable with making his problems the group's problems, and I wonder if the lack of resolution (and the looming threat) is potentially breeding resentment in ways he doesn't realize
