With the working title "What's your ethnicity", this zine is a collaborative multimedia project run by POC, for POC.

The goal with this zine is to share our experiences as BIPOC furries. The two main topics will be around racism and cultural pride. Open to other ideas as well!

Looking for art, comics, personal stories, photography, literature, musicians. Be creative! Looking to have diversity!

Apps and useful links for your comics needs!

If you're new to comics like I am, you may find yourself disoriented in the myriad of apps and sites about comics.

I have been using a lot of these lately, and I thought a list of the best ones could be useful to some of you :3

COMIC ZEAL

Comic Zeal is a useful app for iPad that lets you organize and order your digital comics. It has a lot of functions and it's very easy to use. For example, you can create series directories, use dividers, use tags etc.

I absolutely recommend it. It costs 4.99$ but it's worth it.

You probably already know this one.

This is the ultimate site to purchase digital copies of your favourite comics. If you live far from any comic book shop like I do, it is incredibly handy: you can subscribe to series and have your copies delivered directly on your device every Wednesday. It saves you a lot of stress for sure! 

Sometimes they also do special offers (they offered Batman's most famous titles for a ridiculous price in 2014) and some great comics come for free.

You can find everything that gets published online, not just DC or Marvel or DarkHorse: their catalogue includes manga and french comics and independent editions.

They also have an app (apple / android)  for your phone/iPad/tablet so you can read the books you purchased wherever you are.

Pretty neat, uh?

This site is directly linked to the comixology one. With your account, you can create and personalize your weekly pull list, so you'll always keep track of what comes out and when. Seems silly but it's actually incredibly useful!

This app is basically an expanded version of the comixology pull list, but the cool thing is that being, well, an app you can have it on your phone and check it whenever you need to. Neat-o!

Not strictly about comics, this app lets you stream any podcast in existence..and there are a lot of cool podcasts about comics, trust me! (I'm going to write a post about it later). The interesting thing is that, unlike iTunes, you don't have to download the episodes nor check for new episodes. You just look for your podcast in the app and choose an episode, then listen to it. I have it on my phone and it's great for my commute!

Comic Apps

As the MP3 replaced the CD and the E-reader is starting to replace books, digital comics are looking like they could be joining the ranks.

Since having an iPhone I've downloaded a lot of apps, but of all the apps I have, my comic apps are probably the most used.

The three apps I have are the DC, Image Comics and Comixology apps, but there are more including apps for Marvel, Dark Horse, IDW and loads more.

There's even a Green Lantern comic app where you can just download Green Lantern comics.

The apps themselves are free to download, but the majority of the comics aren't.

New issues cost £1.49, but there are a lot of free comics to download.  The free issues are generally either first issues, zero issues or preview issues but are all a great way to get into digital comics.

   On the iPhone you are shown one panel at a time, but depending on the size of the panel you will be zoomed in on the dialogue after being shown the panel as a whole.

This gives you a chance to view every panel in detail, rather than skimming for dialogue so you can really get into the art.  Also, it prevents you from seeing panels further on that might give away part of the story you're not ready for.

      The iPad seems better built for comic apps.

For starters, they're comic sized so you can see the page layouts as they were originally intended.

As great as these apps are, and they are great, nothing beats real things.  Physical things.  Things you can touch.

A comic collection will always look better in boxes or on shelves than in a scrolling menu.

In the same way I still buy CDs (and vinyl), it will be a long time before I buy all my comics through an app.
