Omg I just finished reading court of owls and it was awesome!!! So, I really feel the need to share my thoughts with someone (sorry in advance lol):
It was so gripping that it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I don't have much experience with western comics and it took me a while to get into it, but I'm so deep into superbat right now that I really want to like batman comics and get to know the characters and the worldbuilding and stuff. (It felt weird reading fanfics and not knowing what characters look like, who they are etc.)
The batman comics I've read until now were great too, but coming from manga, I'm not used to this kind of story telling in comics. I don't know what it is but I really had problems getting into them. Like, I could stop reading anytime and just not have the urge to keep reading...this was really strange to me. Normally when I read a manga which I like I can't stop reading at all. And don't misunderstand me, the batman comics I've read were great in their own way, just not...that thrilling like I'm used to somehow???
Anyways, now with court of owls I feel like it finally clicked! It finally happened! I found a western comic that's exactly as exciting as I like it!
I didn't read this just for the art or just for the vibes or to just understand the worldbuilding and major plot points in Batman, I actually read this because I really liked it! I finally found a batman comic where I couldn't stop reading!!!
I'm excited to find more Batman comics which get me a feeling like this!
If anyone has recommendations I'm open for them! Those are the batman comics I've already read:
- Batman: Year One
- The Man Who Laughs
- The Long Halloween
- Dark Victory
- Robin: Year One
- Batgirl: Year One
- Batman: Ego
- The Killing Joke
- Detective Comics: Batman by Paul Dini
- Hush
- Black Mirror
- Batman: Gothic
- Arkham Asylum
I really enjoyed all of them in their own way, there were just some parts missing that would have made it really click for me I think? Idk, like I said some of them I read more just for the art or the vibes than the story tbh...
Anyways, those were my few (lol) thoughts on this whole experience which I just wanted to share!
