The Force Family & why I think it's sketchy as hell
These guys. They have not been seen outside their sole mainstream hero representative Sparx since the 1990s, and Sparx hasn't been seen since Flashpoint. But for a time, they were in canon.
So what were they?
(Full disclosure: If Sparx wasn't openly homophobic I would probably be giving the rest of this much more benefit of the doubt. But she was, so I'm not.)
The Force family lives in (or near) the fictional small town of Timberton, British Columbia, Canada.
Don't worry about how there's a windowless bunker-looking thing attached to the side with multiple large satellite dishes on top. I guess to be fair that might be for satellite phone and TV? Is that some kind of large unusual vehicle parked to the left?
Maybe not a vehicle, it might be that radio-looking thing in silhouette… then again there's a kind of weird silhouette in the back left here, too. Anyway, at least four satellite dishes, and it looks more bunker-y, too. Though I guess that could actually be a glass door and this was a poorly planned addition in a wildly diverging architecture style because it was trendy?
Which could mean nothing.
Well, moving on. Known family members:
"D.C." (Dorothy Carol) Force, a.k.a. Sparx. After her metagene is activated, can assume an electricity-based form and fly, go intangible, shock people, etc. (DC could be like DC Comics or like Direct Current.)
Iris Force, D.C.'s grandmother. Clairvoyance and possibly precognition. Blind. (Iris like an eye.) Described as 'in charge around here'.
Tetrad Force, D.C.'s father. Can split himself into (probably) four identical copies. (Tetrad. Four.)
Gale/Gail Force, D.C.'s mother. Presumably married in? And yet, named Gale/Gail and has weather control powers. Iris is in charge, but Gale 'cracks the whip'. (Hypothesis: Gail and Tetrad are a cousin marriage, both originally Forces. I'm not sure which one I think is Iris's child.)
Anastasia Force, D.C.'s younger sister. Can calm people when they're distraught or hurting. (Sounds kind of like anesthesia.)
Piston Force, D.C.'s younger brother. Seems to have a metallic body and was able to donate "blood" when someone turned into a robot was leaking? (Piston->engine.)
Calvin Force, D.C.'s brother. Possibly older? Jumped/was pushed in a vat of chemicals; powers unknown.
Harry Force, D.C.'s uncle. Can turn into a big beast-man. (Hairy.)
Allure Botier nee Force, D.C.'s aunt. Isolated from the family -- they tell the kids she's been killing her husbands which I don't think is true. She can turn into a big spider monster. Or maybe the spider monster is her normal shape and she can turn human-shaped, I don't know, that would fit 'Allure' better.
Doc Force, relationship unclear, possibly another uncle. It seems like his given name really is 'Doc'. Outside of his office says MD, DDS, DVM. (Does he actually have these degrees? Idk, possibly.) Seems to have diagnostic powers?
Smith Force, relationship unclear. Super-strong.
Seerah, child, unclear relationship, possibly a sister. X-ray vision. (See.)
Stat, child, unclear relationship. Possibly super-speed.
Minnie, child, unclear relationship. Is very small in single appearance.
"Uncle Lariat" (referred to as such by Gale), relationship unclear, off-page needs to be 'untangled'.
Orrie, D.C.'s cousin of some sort, adult working at STAR Labs, who upon hearing the Bloodlines creatures only kill 90% of the people they attack and activate a metagene in the survivors, immediately calls Harry about this amazing opportunity.
Plus a hall of statues of famous ancestors. Oh, and Harry says if D.C. needs any help in the outside world to look for family -- there are lots of 'special Forces' around.
It is explicit text that no romantic partner will be approved by the family unless they have powers. And you are expected to get approval, or you might end up like Allure.
Having an active metagene is very important. D.C. decided to go to Metropolis to go looking for Bloodlines aliens on the chance that getting attacked by one will activate her dormant gene and not kill her. Harry accompanied his teenage niece to Metropolis to go looking for Bloodlines aliens. They both comment that her parents will be furious -- like the time Harry pushed Calvin into a vat of chemicals -- but don't seem too worried about it.
D.C. is more concerned about their reaction to the news she's going to try actual superheroing. The family doesn't approve of superheroing. They help in 'quiet ways'. So quiet I don't know what they are.
Well, okay, to be fair, Granny is pushing D.C. to go help the Ravers instead of having a snit fit about Hero and his boyfriend.
Hero Cruz thinks D.C. will surely accept his homosexuality because her family is such a hodgepodge of weird powers, but--
So what you're saying is it's wrong and unnatural to not have biological children.
ANYway this whole setup seems really strange and concerning and culty and my advice for someone in that family would be to leave. But they'd have a really hard time doing it.
