Mona Lisa (Y'Gythgba) Appreciation post
Mona Lisa (Y'Gythgba) is a character which was introduced in the season 4, during the events of the space arc. She often acts as a support character, helping the turtles in their missions.
Her first appearance was in "The Moons of Thalos 3" along with Commander Sal. She was shown to be a very fierce warrior in battle, brave and not afraid to share her own opinions.
As a salamandrian warrior, honor and courage are very important for Mona Lisa. She dislikes cowardice and doesn't accept those who run away from battle without reason. She highly respects those who prove her to be honorable, like after Raph saved her life.
Much like Raphael, she's quite short- temper, reckless and quick to judge others. She thought the turtles were her enemies and even worked with the Triceratons.
However, she knew that they needed to cooperate with them if she and her commander wanted to survive. Once the turtles proved to be trustworthy, she quickly decided to help them.
Mona is very loyal her friends and her home planet. She would do anything it takes to protect them, even giving up her own life. She also has a lot of respect for her Commander and listens to his orders when the situation requires to.
Aside from her strong willed personality, Mona is very sweet to the people she cares about. This is shown time and again with Raph, who is her main love interest.
She is really honest about how much she loves Raph, and doesn't hide any of her emotions when he is around. She's open about her feelings, often grabbing his hand or kissing him in return.
In "The Evil of Dregg" she and Sal felt forced to betray the turtles to protect Salamandrian's home planet from Dregg's army. Mona felt forced to choose between her loyalty to her people and her loyalty the turtles, specially Raphael.
After realizing how lying to her friends was a terrible mistake, she decided to help them escape and asked to leave while she and Sal would take care of Dregg. She was willing to risk her own life and the safety of her planet to protect the turtles. Before they left, she told Raph how much she loved him, making Raphael restore his fighting spirit.
In the special "When worlds Collide" she and Sal go to Earth and fight along with the turtles to stop Lord Dregg and the Newtralizer. During the episode, she and Raph talk many times about their relationship, in the end, Mona decided to stay on Earth and becamd a member of the Mutantanimals so she could live near Raphael since they couldn't see each other with Mona constanly going on space missions.
In conclusion: Mona Lisa is a strong warrior who really cares about her friends and her fellow Salamandrian. While it may look like she's agressive and fierce, she's actually is sweet person once you get to know her.
