I Accept This Opportunity To Info Dump Abt My Commander
Inka started out life in the Flame Legion. His dam, keenly aware of the endless brutality she was subjected to as a woman, was horrified to have given birth to a girl. She made a fierce attempt to hide the truth of his gender until her inevitable discovery. This led to a harrowing chase across Ashford that concluded in their violent separation. Inka was eventually discovered mewling, ragged, and alone by a passing Ash Legion patrol, and, after a great deal of debate, was brought in to the fahrar to be assessed for aptitude. Although Inka was decidedly behind his peers, in a moment of mercy he was quietly conscripted into an entirely new legion.
Even though Ash valued stealth and cunning over brawn and firepower, Inka was treated miserably by other charr his age. His origins were a constant source of skepticism from others, and cubhood malnourishment kept him runty and unable to compete (on top of his vision being fairly poor). His mesmery also manifested very young, unnerving even the adults in his life.
It was his magic that eventually pulled him towards the position of the Commander, however. Putting suspicion towards the thaumaturgic arts aside, a few Ash legionnaires proposed the formation of an all-mesmer warband -- one candidates would be invited to rather than forming themselves. Members would engage in more experimental application of their magic to spycraft, testing the very limits of their abilities' power. And, with that, the Mind warband was born, and Inka quickly selected to join their ranks. It was at this point that he earned his surname: Mindbreaker.
It was only after many, many years of garnering a rather fearsome reputation -- especially when it came to disabling other mages, which he did with extreme prejudice -- that Inka was poached by the Order of Whispers, leading to his ascension to Commander. I won't detail that because we've all played the game you know what happens 😭
Commander Mindbreaker views himself as restoring order to a world succumbing to the chaos of dragon magic, and magic in general truthfully. He believes that only a select few are responsible enough to wield it (including himself, of course), and because of his background is reflexively very skeptical of other mages. Since "correcting" the dragon cycle, he's felt a bit unmoored and even disillusioned with his role. He's felt this more keenly now than he ever has as he's forced to make good with Isgarren and the wizards, who he despises to the very core of his being. Director Vloxx has kind of been this Black Phillip temptress for him because he does indeed want to ditch all of these freaks. Also Vloxx is an authority figure who's gassing him up which is basically catnip when you have low self-esteem/are gay/are a freak and Inka fits neatly into all three of those categories 👎
Some more personal facts about Inka though um... I don't think he fully ID's with a specific transgender identity beyond knowing that he's both trans and a gay man. He's never wavered once from IDing as a man since his mother "assigned" it to him, and for him his transness is like . obviously it's something he feels personally aligned with beyond his origin story, but it's also something that helps him feel connected with the mother he lost, too. I think there's a part of him that's thinking of her whenever he's giving his tail a lion cut, for example.
Beyond gender and orientation, Inka is fussy and high strung. He's a big reader in his downtime, and in another lifetime where he wasn't assigned a vengeance quest from birth he would have probably been a scholar. He has very romantic notions about the world and his place in it, and I imagine his journal being filled with poetry and sketches of the grand vistas he's seen during his adventures.
It'll be really interesting to see where this expansion takes him, I've already had a lot of fun letting my imagination go crazy with it!!!!!
