Remember Me.
Leave a “Remember Me” in my ask, and I’ll write a drabble about my character trying to get yours to remember them
When Genji had first joined Overwatch, only one man would talk to him at first. “The past does not define you Genji. Always look ahead and never behind.” It was advice he took to heart when he worked. He would not let his dark past define him.
But the man who spoke that was long gone, something to this day that Genji never understood. The base’s energy reactor would of never exploded like it did. But every time he tried to dig into leads about it, he would only find dead ends.
But this time he found something good. A warehouse of supposed stolen Overwatch tech, and not by the usual suspects. No base was able to keep him out. His ninja training and cybernetics made sure of that.
He landed inside without a sound, only to find someone waiting for him. “I figured you would show up first Genji. You always were the most focused...and stubborn.”
Genji immediately went on the defensive, flinging a volley of shuriken at the figure. The stars sailed right through...a hologram. The ninja relaxed slightly, but was still weary.
“You are probably wondering how I know it’s you. Athena still tracks Overwatch I.D’s after all. I just recorded messages for those that I predicted would come here. I figured it would be you or McRee...or Reyes.” the recording said, somewhat melancholic.
Realization dawned on Genji of who it was talking to him. A literal ghost of Commander Morrison. But this type of ghosted means the person was still alive. “Watch yourself Genji. Someone is hunting down old Overwatch members. It seems someone still has it out for us.”
There were so many questions that Genji had for his old friend, but he could not ask a recording questions. “Don’t bothering coming to look for me either.” the hologram said next. “For all intents and purposes Morrison is dead and I prefer to keep it that way. Just know that I am still out there, continuing the fight we started.”
Genji began to look around the warehouse. Crates of used ammo, plans and schematics on the walls, a map trying to track down all of them, his own marker on Nepal. Someone had been living here for awhile.
“This things only got enough juice for one play back, so it’s gonna be shutting down now. One last thing, watch out for Reyes. He is alive too, I know it. And he may be the one looking to end Overwatch for good.” Silence filled the next few moments before it spoke for the last time. “Eyes ahead Genji. Remember that.”
And the silence and darkness filled the room, only the green light from Genji’s visor remaining.
