Nathaniel I would think. He definitely gets irritated faster around Inara haha.

Inara. I’m not sure Nathaniel would trust Inara to get them back home if he got that drunk. She’d probably take him to a tattoo parlor first or something.

Who’s the the one bandaging the other after a fight?

Maybe a little bit of both? I think both of them typically look after themselves rather than let somebody else look after them. Anders probably just bandages them both.

Who is the one to pull the other to try new things? Like the weird restaurant down the street or skydiving.

Who is the driving/riding shotgun?

Again, Nathaniel always drives. Inara sits in the front seat with her feet up on the dashboard because it annoys Nathaniel.

Though other then that let’s see hrm… honestly I think in any verse that they ended up in the same social circle their coexistence would be purely mutually beneficial for a time before they actually became friends (or not). They are literally like the pair of people forced together at the beginning of a comedy movie who eventually grow kind of fond of each other whether they intended to or not. They are like the fun leader-serious leader camp counselor combo, the rule bending cop and the straight laced cop, the most unlikely combination of self-made super heroes.

I’m not sure there’s a verse where they would stay in a purely mutually beneficial relationship and never become friends but I suppose in any verse that she was still with Alistair and Nathaniel became some sort of royal adviser against his will? Idk I think he’d have to bear an enormous grudge against her and vice versa for them to never become more than civil to each other.

(( GOD do you even know, nonny, how much I want to write more with Inara? Do you? Because–god, the convoluted, twisted, painful path they would BOTH have to walk for them to ever–we’ve talked about it a bit over messages and stuff and it’s such a fragile concept to begin with that it becomes hard to see how it could actually work, but I am so invested in finding a way, even if the end result isn’t necessarily pretty and neat and tied up in a bow, you know? And Merc is so talented with her characters, and Inara is such an undeniably well-rounded, strong character, that I just–I want it, okay, I want it all.Revka, though–honestly, that’s not something I’d ever thought about? I don’t know if their relationship would ever progress beyond a terse, if respectful, friendship. Alistair has a lot of growing to do if he is ever going to even register on her radar, I’d think, and just as much–if not more–to think of her in any way other than as a comrade and friend. HOWEVER. As a platonic ship? HELL YES. I love surrounding Alistair with people who can teach him to reach his full potential and I feel like Revka and he being friends would lead to a lot of interesting changes and development in his character, and I’d love to see that all play out! ))
