I have an App on my phone called Marc Pollo. I love it, but most of my friends don't have it or if they have it, they don't use it. Does anyone have Marco Polo? #marcopolo #commication (at Paloma Creek, Texas)
Web 3.0: a powerful way towards Democratization
Web 2.0 and its evolution web 3.0 allow users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators of user-geenerated content in a community. We can easily see how this phenomenon is increasingly growing in the era of globalization, enabling culturale convergence. Not only a greater flow of information is involved, but also a convergence in ways of thinking and living.
In this framework, I would like to give just a brief insight of the role of social media in the Syria crisis. I am aware that this is a very thorny issue which needs a deeper analysis, but my intention is to highlight the strenght of media, which we should benefit from to spread the democratization.
During the Arab Spring, social media played a significant role. Despite internet censorship in Syria is extensive, we have to take into consideration that 70% of its population is under 30. Why is this statistic so important? Because young people didn’t fear to find other ways to “reach” and keep in contact with the rest of the world (Statistics show that during the Arab Spring the number of users of social networks, especially Facebook). In particular they learned about western values and they asked for more freedom.
Social media also facilitated communication and interaction among participants of political protests: organizing demonstrations, disseminating information about the activities, and raising local and global awareness of ongoing events.
Moreover, it has become fundamental in “shaping how the crisis is portrayed and perceived” wrote Middle East affairs analyst Chris Zambelis in July 2012. It was used on every side of the conflict, to inform but also to misinform. Its role has become so evident that Syria crisis has been defined as “the first social media war.
I don’t want to go too in depth in the argument, bacause as I said it would take longer discussions. What I think is that social media is a tool of liberation and empowerment. Freedom to communicate is not something to be taken for granted, it’s a powerful tool that can be used in the democratization process.

Lessons from Marriage
Want some secrets for a good marriage?
So do I. I haven’t found any. I don’t think there is a secret ingredient or hidden key to making a marriage work. But twenty-six years of marriage has taught me a lot. I thought I would share some of the things I have been learning over the last two and a half decades.
Marriage is work. It is not easy. Anyone who says marriage is easy is selling something…
