Commodore CDTV (1991)

the CDTV (Commodore Dynamic Total Vision, or, more obviously, Compact Disc Television) was marketed as a multimedia entertainment system/video game console which could be converted into a fully functional personal computer via optional peripherals (ex. mouse, keyboard, disk drives, memory cards).

despite being essentially a Commodore Amiga, it was not marketed as an Amiga at all, rather strictly its own separate short-lived line. my personal theory for this is that Commodore believed Amigas werent "trendy" enough anymore by the 90s, and that releasing this "new" device would give them some leverage in the market once again. simply put, it didnt, and Commodore went out of business 3 years later.

RIP Commodore International Corporation... u will be missed....... 💔

Eleven months after it had previewed “an all-new CD-based Amiga,” this issue showed off the nearly finished and starting to become available CDTV. A handful of titles available for it were previewed, and there was also some coverage of a CD-ROM drive to be attached to existing (and more conventionally packaged) Amiga 500 computers.
