Hypolimnas bolinas philippensis
A couple of male Varied Eggfly butterflies have been stopping by recently as the weather warms up! Might search the local area for host plants~!
Day 28 The second butterfly is hard to photograph today. It has the same markings to the first butterfly, indicating I believe they are both males. The markings on the open wings are black with large white spots ringed with ultra-purple. The underside of the wings are most commonly seen, as the butterfly closes its wings while resting. The colouration is brown with white and black markings.
See second image (Gordon Robertson), and here
a better image of the Common Eggfly butterfly that is extremely clear!
Day 11 Amazingly I managed to locate both exoskeletal caterpillar heads which had moulted. They are very brittle, but carefully preserve the size of the caterpillar heads before the moult occurred.
