Common Whitetail (Plathemis lydia), male, taken April 17, 2026, in Georgia, US
A beautiful male dragonfly showing off his signature white tail! While females are mostly brown with yellow abdominal spots, males of this species are known for their bright, bluish-white abdomen, easily visible from a ways away. In direct sunlight, it appears bright white, but in weaker sun and shady spots, it's almost a pastel blue color. Very beautiful either way, and this guy wears it well!

What pretty wing markings! This sweet lil friend looks like a common whitetail, Plathemis lydia.
Peak finds today. A male common whitetail to display with my female common whitetail!! I've wanted one of these guys for yeeaaarss
And what I didn't get on camera was two skippers flying into my face and a GIGANTIC cicada killer wasp carrying a swamp cicada into a stone wall! :D
