Meet Lizzy Vitale, a communications major from Waukesha, Wisconsin. We asked Lizzy about her Wildcat experience so far:
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
Lizzy: I came to NMU because I love the smaller size and outgoing environment of the school as well as the community. It’s the coolest thing to tell people that my school is basically on the shore of Lake Superior and in the middle of the best hiking spots! I also LOVE the small class sizes and being able to talk to professors/instructors one-on-one, if need be, and they’re always there to help you if you need it.
What do you like about your major at NMU?
Lizzy: I love that the communications department is a smaller department and I’m able to meet and talk with my professors easily if I need to. It’s also a major that can be easily attainable within 4 years with lots of opportunities to grow within it on campus. The communications professors are all so knowledgeable and will help anyone with anything, whether it’s about a class you’re in, picking out classes, writing a letter of recommendation, or even just your general future plans you have questions about. They’re there for you.
What are you involved with on campus?
Lizzy: I am involved with the organizations: Admissions Student Ambassadors, Public Relations Students Society of America, Intramural Volleyball, Superior Edge, and my job in the Campus Visit Program. With over 300+ clubs/organizations on campus there is literally something for everyone and if we don’t have it, you can make it!
Of your activities on- or off-campus, what has been the most rewarding and why?
Lizzy: Definitely my job at the Campus Visit Program. It has helped me with public speaking, interacting with people, and just a general idea of a more “adult” workplace. The people I work with have also got me to join other clubs and be more active not just on campus but off campus too!
What's your favorite memory during your time as a student?
Lizzy: My favorite memory as a student so far is going to the hockey games; it’s a blast and basically the entire student body is there. It’s really an experience like no other! I can’t wait for hockey season to start so we can go all out again with the cheers and getting discounts on Domino’s pizza!!!!
