COMMUNICATION 3 - PART ONE - ROADHOUSE LOGO REDESIGN EVALUATION
Although we got off to a bit of a slow start, and had some trouble developing our ideas, I think that in the end we developed a good and interesting logo. As far as the branding and examples of use go, I do think that these could use much more development, but they served their purpose as quick examples. We both really like the pattern I developed, and the colour palette we chose works well with this too. We would have, however, liked to have shown the idea we had (but ran out of time to do!) of a gif logo that flashed between the colours for each different themed night, as this could work well in the website to draw attention. The pitch went well, we felt, and we got some great feedback about our logo and ideas for usage. Jo and Tash also suggested ways we could further develop this which inspired new ideas such as;
- transform the pattern into something that unravels and winds its way around the club i.e. travelling up the walls, over and behind the bar etc.
- create a labyrinth, maze-style game for an app in which the pattern would roll out to illustrate the various rooms within the venue, and if you manage to complete it and navigate your way through the Roadhouse, you share your score on Twitter/ Facebook, and get a free shot. The loading page for this could be the logo drawing itself; like an etch-a-sketch, as if the logo were loading too.
- look at Wild Posting: the repetitive pattern could work well for this.
Overall, whilst the usage and font within the pattern needs a lot more development, I think the logo itself matches the brief and what Katie said she would like to see it develop into. We also met our concept of creating a vintage style logo that didn't deviate too much from the existing one, and which also uses a grungy colour palette to fit in with the style of the venue. So all in all, we both came out of the briefing buzzing and full of ideas where this could go, so we'd love to develop it further for our portfolio if we can.
