I made this! It is a communication board.

It's for swimming. My carers are helping me get disability swimming lessons. And I will hopefully go to special olympics.

Be careful with video. It has loud cars if the volume in on. And I'm not sure how to turn off sound.

I want to talk about using AAC while in wet environments (Like a pool, or the snow).

I personally use a high tech AAC device, and it is not water proof. My device was expensive and is obviously very important to me, so I do not want to ruin it by getting it wet. Being able to communicate at all times is very important, so I want to talk about some ways to use AAC in wet environments. I've seen some people just put their device in like a really big plastic bag, but that is a relatively simple concept I think so instead I'll be talking about other ways to use AAC when you need to communicate in wet environments.

One way to use AAC in water or wet environments is a communication board.

For those of you who may not know, communication boards are a type of low tech AAC that consists of a board with pictures, symbols, or words that a person can point to in order to communicate their message. While I typically use a high tech AAC device, I have found that communication boards can be a great option for when I'm in wet environments, like a pool.

One of the main advantages of using a communication board in wet environments is that they are much more durable than high tech AAC devices. Communication boards can be made out of materials such as plastic or laminated paper, which are both waterproof and able to withstand the wear and tear of being used in wet environments.

Another advantage of using a communication board is that it allows me to communicate without having to worry about any damage to my AAC device.

Of course, using a communication board does have its limitations. It can be slower and less efficient than using a high tech AAC device, and it may not be as customizable or personalized to my specific needs. However, I have found that in wet environments, the benefits of using a communication board outweigh these limitations.

Overall, as an AAC user, it's important to have a range of communication options available to us depending on our specific needs and situations. While I still prefer my high tech AAC device for everyday use, I have found that communication boards can be a great option for when I'm in wet environments.
