What is the best way to learn Spanish if you’re not from a Spanish family or know anyone who is? I live in Norway and literally don’t know anyone who speaks Spanish here and Duolingo doesn’t seem to be helping me retain

Strategies that require you to use the language to communicate a unique idea, question, action, or to complete a task, are the best ways to learn. This is why people learn so well in immersive situations. (These are called Communicative language teaching and Task-based language learning, if you want to google for more.)

Monologues are not the best way to learn, which is what DuoLingo and other apps rely on. It's a way to learn, but not the best way.

If there are no Spanish speakers near you, your best best is a paid conversational service via online, or making a Spanish language penpal you can exchange language lessons with.
