This will be my last model of the year but she came out so silly I love her...
She has about 5 different eyes and eight different mouths... BUT HER MOUTHS CAN ALSO FLIP SIDES!!! definitely one of my favorite parts about it.
I also figured out how to multiply different textures on top of each other! though it is a bit tedious as opposed to just drawing the shading lol
(and! the hair is made of metaballs! whatever those are. either way it works REALLY well so i'll probably use the technique again)
As much as I love the final result they are so. SO tedious to work with (plus the textures got screwed up about halfway through) so this may be a one time model unless I can fix some of the issues.
Reblogs and comments are very very appreciated!!!!! Though I think I put all my yapping in the post already so I'll put the silly extras under the cut lol
Ignoring the fact that I. definitely panicked when I first got this ask I'll talk about Protag here! They were initially a fill in for the player but has become her own character since.
Protag is the, well, Protagonist, of CDSWC/CompDatSim. While they mainly focus on coding and working with computers (they even do it for college), they've had experience repairing computers as well... ever since their childhood!
A very long time ago on a class trip, she spotted a busted computer and went on her own to investigate it. Out of curiosity, they opened it up and messed with a few wires -which is frankly a DANGEROUS thing for a nine year old to do- and managed to get it to work!
Pretty safe to say, it changed her life. She became fascinated with the inner workings of computers, though due to her not living close to any computer labs or owning one herself, they began looking into how arcade machines worked instead. Which was not ideal for the arcades (though GREAT for many arcade goers).
((I'm also now considering if this is where she got her love for games?))
Their family was eventually able to afford a computer, which means Protag was finally able to channel her interest in computers to the fullest (as well as gain an interest in software)!!! And that's where it all begins...
I have more about this series on my main blog @artsandstoriesandstuff!!!! and by more i mean. a few things
I fixed the shape keys I was using (as well as got around to modeling the legs and long sleeve shirt) and they have now acquired a total of 6 base clothes!
I sadly had to remove the smooth shapes on the bones since the outfits were static but I still think the setup looks pretty cool.
REBLOGS AND COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED!!! Video version + All the outfits below the cut......
I plan to touch up the faces and the face rig itself next but my drawing tablet pressure is acting up so it may be a while until then.
I also realized I forgot to move her from the grey void, so take this as compensation:
Okay I've actually made a lot of updates to their model. More below the cut!!
(Reblogs and comments are appreciated!!!)
In terms of minor changes, I've managed to fix up the textures and get the shading back on the hair (which I think were issues caused by the live unwrap). I also moved almost all of the outlines to be render only, which prevents lag... except for the hands because I can NOT figure out the shape without them.
Additionally, I changed the shape of her head bone in her rig to look more like a head... though this is more stylistic than anything.
Speaking of rigs: the bigger changes!!!
While their initial skeleton wasn't anything noteworthy (sorry, Protag), I've added quite a few new bones to the mix!
The shirt shaped controller changes her shirt shape using shape keys... and in addition uses shape keys ITSELF to change shape!!! I had the same idea for another rig but I still thing this is so cool.
(She also would've had long sleeves, but the weight paint still sees it connected to the upper arm. Maybe later...)
Next, I added some updates to her face rig!!! She now has eight additional mouths with a toggle between them as well as a separate switch to change the mouth orientation (it was originally a part of one bone).
I also used the shape keys for the bones a second time because it looks cool as hell.
Lastly (some how involving shape keys YET AGAIN), I fixed how her wrists look when they rotate! Normally I don't care enough to fix it and just avoid poses using that but since I was getting better at drivers and sculpting I figured I'd give it a go.
If I remember right these are called corrective shape keys and, while not 100% symmetrical, make a BIG difference in the end. I love em.
---
That's all I have to talk about for now!!! If I make any more significant changes to them again I'll make another post on it.
And maybe she won't be in the grey void next time?
(once again interactions are appreciated... i put more effort into this than i thought lol)
