After devastation caused by aerial bombardment during the Second World War, a city planning competition was held for the rebuilding of the central area of Berlin, following confirmation by the West German Bundestag in 1957 of the status of Berlin as capital of the Federal Republic.
Alison and Peter Smithson with P. Sigmond-Wonke, London, won the third prize. The main idea raises on a connected city through a network of pedestrian platforms that separated motorized mobility from pedestrian mobility by an irregular pattern. As you can see on images above their design uses three clear colour plastic overlays to show street patterns, site and traffic layout.
Many of the proposals emphasised the separation of motor and pedestrian traffic. For example, Hartmann, Nickerl and Scharoun which won the second prize, proposed most of the motor traffic underground. The project in the end could not be built due to the economic and political climate.
The city planning competition ‘Hauptstadt Berlin’ was widely published, including in a large format book entitled Berlin: Ergebnis des Internationalen städtebaulichen Ideenwettbewerbs Hauptstadt Berlin, published by the Federal Minister of Housing (Stuttgart : Krämer, 1960).

China is ELIMINATING global carmakers out of its massive market
P.S. The Chinese Communist Party’s regime used the greed and short-sightedness of the "useful fools" quite skillfully.
However, there is no reason to worry: Legacy automakers (actually, useful fools), who at least since 2016-2018 ignored the publicly well-known electrification plan of the Chinese auto industry and its consequences, get exactly what they earned - loss of competitiveness in the Chinese auto market!
Thanks to the strategic short-sightedness of the CEOs of the "old" car manufacturers, who ignored the issues of mass production of electric cars, Chinese electric car manufacturers with much more affordable products will have a very good chance very easily to take a significant share of the car market in many other countries outside of China as well...
Only large-scale losses and a painful lesson in the form of lost profits will force the old car manufacturing companies to seriously engage in electric car production technology. Of course, not all old companies will survive...Many manufacturers will follow the ICE vehicle Jeep brand, which was already forced to capitulate in the Chinese market and go away...!
Legacy Auto Collapse is HERE: Jeep is $20k MORE than a Tesla!
Dr. Know-it-all Knows it all
Has Jeep Ram priced themselves out of competition with the likes of Tesla? It surely seems that way! Brandon from Car Questions Answered looked at the price of Jeeps--particularly the low-end Compass and mig-range Wrangler Rubicon--and their prices are similar to much more expensive than a Tesla Model Y, which has much lower Total Cost of Ownership. No wonder Stellantis sales were down 13% last year and falling!
P.S. Some pretty shocking news in the US auto market: Many once-popular ICE vehicle models are now actually significantly more expensive than the electric Tesla Model Y and Model 3...It is not a matter of long time when even the most conservative part of society will discover this fact and nobody will want to buy anything from ICE vehicle dealers...
