I have been realizing since march that almost all of my friends aren’t really trustworthy people/ are kind of toxic. I want to ask the tarot how I should deal with that because sometimes this makes me really sad
I wasn’t sure of how to make a spread for this question, so I pulled out the old reliable Celtic cross for you. I also wanted to thank you for trusting me with this. I enjoy doing the serious readings like this a lot. So I hope this interpretation is helpful.
The situation/you: 10 of wands
You are currently overwhelmed, even burdened. You feel weighed down by responsibilities or the situation at hand. This situation is exhausting for you. It’s like you’re being pulled in many directions and it’s forcing you to stand still with this weight. But this card is also about the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. It points to endings, though they may be harsh, they are ultimately about letting go of burdens.
The challenge you face is that of 6 of cups, which represents the past and nostalgia. You have a history with these friends. It’s hard to want to let that go. Nostalgia clouds your vision and makes things unclear. Good times in the past do not equal good times in the present or future. You miss when it felt easy.
Recent past: the hanged man
Recently, you have occupied the space of the hanged man. The hanged man is the pause before letting go. It is a moment of pause in which you reflect and shift perspective. Your perspective has changed, as you see these friends as toxic. Letting go of them is likely the decision you have come to. This card indicates that reflection as well as the release. There’s a level of pain here as well.
The near future is anticipated to be that of the chariot. The chariot represents overcoming external obstacles, willpower, drive, success, and control. Your obstacle of the 6 of cups is only a hurdle that you will overcome. Through willpower, you can overcome any obstacle that lies between you and your peace. As long as you are set on your goal, whatever that goal is, you can reach it. If that’s getting a whole new friend group, then so be it. If it’s confronting people, so be it. If it’s just whatever brings you peace, so be it. Whatever your goal, you will reach it.
As something you are consciously aware of about the situation, 4 of swords appears and represents rest, especially rest that is forced upon you. This rest often follows pain. There’s stillness in this moment. You are aware that you have made your decision, but have not taken action. You’re aware that this rest period is necessary, as it allows for reflection and recuperation. This is so important, given that you are so overwhelmed at this time.
Subconsciously, as something you aren’t fully aware of, the 4 of wands presents itself. The 4 of wands represents harmony, community, and gatherings. There’s a longing for these things. Maybe you’re aware of its presence or lack thereof in these friends. This card holds a lot of joy in it, so what does it mean? I think this is something only you can reflect on. I’m not well versed in the subconscious of other people’s minds.
Your influence: knight of wands
As something under your influence, something you are in control of, the knight of wands shows itself. Listen to your passion. What does it say to you? How can you take action? What action do you want to take? How can you move forward with your own best interests at heart? Embrace your charismatic side. Embrace your passions and hobbies. Other than your friends, where do you find satisfaction in life? How can you do more of that?
External influence: wheel of fortune reversed
As a force outside your control that is affecting the situation, we have the wheel of fortune reversed. When upright, this card is about cycles, fate, life’s ups and downs, changes, karma, and luck. When reversed, that energy is blocked or shifted. So it’s more like fate is spinning its wheel in a direction that you’re not super excited about. So it could indicate feeling stuck. It could also just refer to the natural changes we go through in life. The natural course is for highs to follow lows and lows to follow highs. It’s unfortunate, but this really is entirely outside of your control on a larger scale than might be apparent. What you can control, is how you act, which is what the knight of wands was about.
This placement is dual-sided in nature. It is both what you fear and what you long for. 6 of swords shows that to be distance, departure, and moving on. You’re ready to swim into new waters, but you’re scared of what that means. You want change, but you’re afraid of distance between you and these friends. You’re ready to not feel an emotional attachment to these friends anymore, but it brings you fear to actually experience that.
Likely outcome: knight of coins
The knight of coins, as an outcome, indicates long term efforts. I don’t think it’s as simple as it seems. I mean that this situation feels like a fragment of a larger whole in relation to your life. Like you’re going through major changes, and that’s not just with your friends. These changes will require you to have a set goal, especially a long term one. And you will be asked to show up for yourself every single day and put in the effort to reach it. So long as you are diligent and willing to do this, you will reach your goal.
As a bonus, I pulled an advice card. The advice given to you is 2 of wands, which represents making plans for the future as well as making a decision. This decision is entirely in your hands, which is empowering. It’s time to set goals, which I’ve noticed is a major theme in this reading. Make your plans for the future. What do you want? This is the exciting part. The world is your oyster. But do make a decision.
I noticed that a major theme came across in this reading: plans for the future and choices. I think this event with your friends represents a turning point in your life. How you handle this and whatever outcome you decide you want seems to be a defining moment for you. I don’t mean that to place pressure on you. I’m pointing it out because I think it’s where you should focus your energy. Without considering your friends, what do you want? What goals can you set for yourself? How can you better live your truth and embrace your passions? Because the wands showed up enough in this reading to really drive home the themes the wands represent: passion, energy, hobbies, ect.
