DAY 2 - part 1 (mystery hermit - end of auction + the starting untroduction)
i just i love the BBC ghosts version. Not only coz i’m a british kid who grew up with Martha and the Six Idiots in Horrible Histories but because there’s something like nostalgic and real about it. It’s so uniquely british and it just feels like home. Like it’s not over dramatised it is literally “we’re in a cost of living crisis, these two kids inherited a house with ghosts. good luck.”
And honestly, it’s so realistic because yeah there’s no way Alison and Mike were ever going to make Button House successful and maintain it, especially with those ghosts around. And the scenarios they get into are both so hyper exaggerated for comedic effect but also absolutely the sex pest disgraced politician with no pants would behave Like That.
But then on the OTHER end of the spectrum, the CBS version of ghosts is so fanatical and silly and there’s a connection there that the BBC seems to skimp out on a little. Like Alison spent the majority of 5 years treating/acting like the ghosts were an inconvenience up until like the last season pretty much whereas Sam is all in and sees them as family. Mike never rlly warmed up to them but Jay is fully like ‘okay this is happening and i love them they are my 500+ year old children and if you make them upset you will pay’. I don’t know there’s just something special there.
It also encompasses all of US history pretty much (From the natives to modern day ie trevor) whereas the UK and Europe are so vastly rich in history it was impossible for the BBC to cover all of it (but they gave it a pretty good go over the 5 years) which is interesting. Especially for someone who doesn’t know anything about US history apart from the civil rights era. Even if it’s played up for humour, it’s based on reality. I imagine most Americans would feel the same way about their Ghosts the way I do mine.
A lot of British like to mock the US for continuously remaking our shows instead of their own but when they do it right they do it RIGHT. Both versions are valid for different reasons and different people but one is not superior than the other imo.
coming up with lore for a rewrite-ish au be like
step 1. schnee summoning requires them to kill (destroy) a grimm before being able to summon (create) it
step 2. creating something with the staff requires the destruction of the previous creation
step 3. ???
step 4. end up with new history of the kingdom of mantle / atlas and the role some schnee and the staff of creation played in it and the ramifications it has for the present day
Who was going to tell me that good for you was condescending??!?!? I thought it meant glad that’s happening for you. You know cuz that’s WHAT THE WORDS MEAN!!!!!
