A grin spread on her lips, pausing for dramatic effect as she took of the cap. “Actually I just forgot my sunglasses.” A small shrug followed her words. No need to tell the other how she had acquired the cap. Again she grinned knowing that her answer probably was not SATISFYING. “But there’s more - guess what?”

she’s curled up in her bed, on her side of the room. but in a month, it’ll be move out day & sympathy will be back home & maddie will be off who knows WHERE & come fall, there’ll be a stranger sitting in the other side of the room. even though she & sympathy had already agreed to room together again. but it’s okay. she’s not upset or anything. it’s okay.

never mind that the agent is at least half a foot taller. mattea has her hands on her hips & she’s shoved her chin in the air, which she feels more than makes up for it. plus !! mattea’s got POWERS & she’s not afraid to us them anymore. she will if this very tall agent tries to fight her. because now that she thinks about it, she’s never physically fought a day in her life.
well, never mind that !! it won’t come to that !! she’s the MAD HATTER & everyone is terrified of her. including this agent. mattea will just have to show her who’s IN CHARGE if she attacks.
( & please don’t notice her chin is quivering, just a little. this supervillain mask doesn’t cover the bottom half of her face. she’ll have to talk to mrs. weersing about getting BETTER MASKS. )
