The rebirth of Marathon does not include the Mac and that's a big letdown for longtime Mac users.
Bungie is rebooting Marathon, an iconic FPS game that started on the Mac back in the ‘90s. It grew into a huge franchise. Actually HALO was viewed by many as the next iteration, the next level of development for the game. Now it’s being rebooted, but only on PCs and game consoles. It won’t be on the Mac.
The author is shocked by this and chalks it up to being Apple’s fault.
The thing is, Bungie was bought by Microsoft while HALO was in development. Who on earth, other than the author of this article, would expect Microsoft to do any favours whatsoever for Apple? Apple isn’t even running on Intel hardware any more. It would take a lot of work and money to port the game over, for what? Nostalgia? This is Microsoft. They don’t care about Apple users pining away for a classic game from decades ago. They are there for market share, for profit, and that is the PC/console market. I don’t think this surprises anyone, except for the author that is.
Every once in a while you see an article that makes you wonder if the writer has been paying attention.
Myst Mobile, Pt 2
Here’s a a short videos. Look at the detail in the water, the glints of sunlight, the moving clouds, the moving sunbeams caused by the clouds moving in front of the disk. This is all just the view from a platform. It makes no difference to the gameplay in any way. They included it just because they could.
