AP Concentration!

So in AP, we have to do twelve Breadths (the free for all stuff I posted earlier this year) and twelve Concentration pieces (which is like a series, and I'm currently working on this semester. We are also required a concentration statement (which is pretty much a summary), so here's that!

 My concentration depicts the connection between a boy and his spiritual partner, a tree, throughout a lifetime. The challenge of the concentration is not only how to depict the tree and the boy in twelve distinct pieces, but also to insert plant based imagery into the artworks. There will be a large sense of unity, space, and increasing pattern in the environment and movement within the figure. Colors transition from a cool winter, to pastel colors for spring, to vibrant summer colors, and finally to earthen tones and warm colors in autumn, which repeats through all twelve.

The body and the mind

Hi, I'm starting a 12 piece concentration exploring philosophy through human anatomy. Each piece will be titled a different philosophical question or statement and will be mixed medium, mainly charcol and acrylic paint with black painted backgrounds. I'll tag everything "the body and the mind"

Concentration Statement:

for my concentration, i will be focusing on portraits that capture instances of hidden emotion from a range of interesting angles and perspectives.

my work demonstrates this by depicting images of faces half shown, looking down, etc. I try to use angles I don't normally go for, straying from a normal straight-on or profile view and opting for less used, more unique viewpoints, though they are more difficult to depict accurately.

I wrote most of my concentration statement at 5 AM yesterday. It turns out I kinda did ok.... Needs more reference to the pieces I haven't bothered to create yet. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

My Concentration represents "Various Stages of Depression". Originally, I started with the idea, "A Beautiful Mind" which was inspired by the story of John Forbes Nash Jr., a brilliant professor who struggled with his diagnosis of a mental disorder, schizophrenia. When picking my concentration, I wanted to put my own representation of how I think the internal battle of someone battling with themselves in their minds because I was able to identify  However, as me pieces were produces, the common mood the seemed to share was depressing and somber, which I feel came out because it was during this time I had hit my lowest point in my own psychological state when dealing with depression.

As my mental state improved through the year, my pieces were able to reflect transitions of how I felt in different stages of depression which I felt like would better explain my work, whereas I felt the statement "A Beautiful Mind" was cryptic and vague. My beginning pieces show isolation and feelings of being trapped and alone, whereas my later pieces are supposed to represent the escape of the senses of being caged by your own mind.

AP art is literally driving me insane. 

I pick a concentration, and then I can't think of anything because my topics are so broad and stupid. If someone tells me to draw something, I'll draw something. If someone tells me to paint something, I'll paint it. 

All I have is half a sketchbook filled with crappy doodles and homework assignments, and pages that only contain song lyrics and quotes and nothing else. 

No matter how dark my world feels, I can't seriously express it. I'm not like my friends who can make statements with their art or show their amazing imaginations with their art. I'm stuck.

I guess I like drawing buildings and interiors. I wish I could do that as a concentration. I just don't know how to word it. And I don't know if I can change my concentration anymore.
