prev anon here: omg im so glad I was able to reassure you!! because genuinely when I zone out during the day its literally just scenarios of concentricity in my head and jt makes me go insane. I love that reader is on level ground with him in terms of academia because it opens so many doors, I love the idea of ford slowly becoming accustomed to company to the point of feeling upset when he's on his own. like reader is sick one day and cant come into the lab and its the WORST day for stan to be in the house because ford is just moping, but hides it (badly) by saying things like "were going to be behind on work" when really he's doing nothing but being SAD!! like even if theyre not together at this point, even just in their friendship the idea of ford longing for a work partner is so sweet.
(also I know the band thing was a throwaway line but I think ford is soooo ill that he listens to the music when he's on his own just to feel closer to reader. they catch him humming it one day and are so confused)
anyway I'm glad you liked the song rec also!! that song REALLY reminded me of them since there's so many fun references to the chemical making of soap and its just soooooo them to have a song based on science. I love them im mentally ill for them
i agree, there's something incredibly charming and sweet about becoming accustomed to the mudanity of someone's company..... if i couldve stretched the epistolary timeline out longer i definitely wouldve had a bit where reader doesnt come around and ford gets grumpy but doesnt know WHY he's so grumpy when he suddenly realizes, wait, he's not used to being alone in the lab now.....
and the song you recommended fits them so well because reader very much couldve given up on ford when things started to go sour and write it off but they see something in him thats worth returning to!!! even if they dont realize that's what theyre doing!!
