sometimes I think about how Gansey must probably remain the most charming person in a room when there are vampires who have the supernatural ability to charm humans present around and near him and it's one of the funniest parts about this AU. just imagine how much it pisses both Ronan and especially Declan, who doesn't have any other special abilities, off
oh, you’re very correct. ronan is too busy being gay and embarrassed to really think through the absurdity of it all; he just knows he has been fundamentally wronged. declan, on the other hand, is wildly bitter.
i can’t remember if this is canon or if i’ve been editorializing too much (i think the former but who knows!), but in the same way that vampires are impossibly beautiful to better draw humans in, humans have pretty decent instincts for when they’re in danger. vampires are cold and, by smeyer’s own admission, very obviously inhuman. they’re meant for short-term deception--get someone to leave a public space with you and then eat them--not fitting in with society for years on end. basically all the cullens actually have going for them is the fact that we don’t generally believe vampires exist
so anyway, i think declan as a human is, despite his canon ability to charm and gladhand, very slightly cold. almost no one picks up on it, but he isn’t actually making connections or something. what i love about the twilight au is that vampirism definitely exacerbates declan’s worst qualities and gives him another reason to hold himself apart from the people around him. :(
