Artist/Concept Research- Song of the Sea!

Paul bought in several art books from animated movies for us to look at, and I thought the song of the sea one fit really well with my theme!

Since the beginning of the project I had this movie in mind for artist research, since it's set in the West of Ireland and also because I grew up watching it. I adore the way water is animated and designed in this movie, as well as the rocks and the Seanachaí's hair, because swirls and almost neolithic shapes and motifs are used to convey movement and texture.

This is an element I've been trying to incorporate into my work because I think it's really effective in communicating coastal movement!

In Photoshop I followed a another tutorial in lighting and shadows. I tried to replicate the item in the tutorial by following it step by step  this is the finished piece I have produced.

I have tried out a tutorial I found on Youtube on the program Adobe Illustrator to try a different approach to designing my character. This is one of pieces I had done, it helped me learn more on 2D flat design.

I have done some brief research on the Pixar movie Monsters university concept artwork. I really love the vivid colours and simple looking brush to goes together to make such a detailed piece.

I have taken a bit of influence from these pieces for some colours on my work
