Yesterday, I went to Third Man Records to see Fucked Up. It was my first time seeing them and the first time at the venue.
The experience shook me. My ears are ringing still; my left ear is partially deaf. I’m sore. My face is sore and my mouth is dry from smiling. It left me wanting.
While my enjoyment of synthy sad pop endures, there’s an undeniable lust and seduction to hardcore, metal, and punk. They can transmit messages of death and futility, but in them, I find a will to live more deeply, more current, bolder.
Lead singer Damian was right. He has seen many things in his travels that left him jaded, but right here, in TMR, good things are happening. I, too, am grateful and I refuse to die on the inside.
