I wanted to share this with you:
I came across this old book today. At first, it’s amusing. Wow, that didn’t age well, hahahah. But it speaks to something quite serious. We waste a lot of time and energy on the politics of the moment. Everybody rushes to give their hot take on an imminent catastrophe that doesn't actually materialize, a situation that turns out to not be what it looked like, or something that's forgotten in six months. And when we are constantly bombarded by news, and constantly under pressure to have an opinion on the latest stories, we don't develop a deep knowledge of any particular topic related to politics. All we "know" are talking points and a few scattered facts.
You shouldn't tune out politics because you don't care, but because you'd develop a much more useful fund of knowledge and insight from reading about history, philosophy, or pretty much any other subject, as well as simply living and working and interacting with people in the real world, than you would from reading articles that will become obsolete in two weeks. The effort that went into publishing this book could have been put into something much more enduring. That's worth thinking about.
