Timeless Wells (Flash) Soldier- Chapter 19
The remainder of the week is not as painful as you would assume.
Harrison doesn’t appear to be in a bad mood, despite your clear rejection. If anything, he’s more tender. His smiles are as warm as ever. Your greetings are short, but he’s still attentive about updates on your life while you inform him of the progress at your company with the temporary replacement.
Your current conversation is about the particular person you've chosen.
“Oliver Queen you say?”
You nod.
“His reputation is amazing. I was surprised that he wasn’t taken by another establishment. He lives quite modestly despite his talents. He worked with CCPD until he decided to switch jobs and work with security. His head employer right now is John Diggle. You might have heard of him. “
“The millionaire that owns Diggle industries. It would be careless not to know him. I’ve met him at a few functions. He’s one of the more humble contributors to Star Labs. His duty to the community would put Mother Teresa to shame.”
“I got the same impression. Mr. Queen and Mr. Diggle also seems fairly close.”
“It’s easy to form bonds when you have a respectful relationship.”
The comparison between their relationship and yours finally resonates. Your hands slip out of your pocket.
“Sir I-”
“There’s nothing that you have to explain. I heard what you said and I respect your decision.”
His manner of being so understanding is a bit irritating. He must be at least a little pissed at the situation.
“Are you really going to sit there and tell me that you’re perfectly fine?” Your tone is a bit accusatory.
“Because I’m rich you think I’m entitled to whatever I want?”
Harrison stops filing through his papers, now solely looking at you.
“You are a person, perfectly capable of making your own decisions. You made it clear how you felt and I respect that. Our positions are a bit compromising. It was also disheartening when you rejected my offer. But the fact that you’re so worked up must mean that some part of you holds the same feelings I have for you. “
“You..”
He nods.
“I do have feelings for you. I’ve had them for a while.”
You need to maintain your composure.
“What makes you so sure that I have feelings for you? It’s pretty conceited to make that assumption.”
He only smiles.
“Maybe I’m just hopeful that you do.”
You hate this, how honest he is. How endearing. A part of you wishes he’d been a douchebag about the situation. Maybe then it would have been easier to bury your feelings and swallow your pride. You need to fight back.
“Even if I did return those feelings, I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready.”
He’s still looking at you so fondly.
“That’s okay, I have time.”
How are you supposed to discourage a man so blindly optimistic?
