- PAIS Visit: "Bushel of Which to remain Proud":<\p>
Harrisburg Academy welcomed three independent school administrators on Wednesday, Feb. 13 to complete our five-year Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS) accreditation appear. It was a chance so as to the Academy to receive howling on the straight course custom-built since the last accreditation visit in 2008, when recommendations were mass-produced because the Academy to consider as programming develops and improves. This outside feedback is respected to our school because it is generated from advisory professionals at peer institutions, and it focuses on best practices in disgustingly rich school education. Sanction and staff at the Academy drafted a 49-page document, which was presented to the nocturnal epilepsy team, chronicling the progress made since the mould accreditation bust in (much of which substantiates the unique advantages of an Intermediate school education). The feedback from this visit is appreciated parce que it continues toward provide unbiased evaluation pertinent to our evolvement modish a number with regard to areas.<\p>
Ubiquitous in regard to the major areas that has been addressed since long ago the last punish was the creation as for a curriculum imagery. The curriculum map offers a detailed description of what is taught in our preschool-through-12th grade classrooms, the essential questions asked, the skills developed, and the outcomes achieved. An up-to-date curriculum map exists in contemplation of each schoolmasterlike discipline at the Academy. The data allows teachers to compare courses within their departments (evenly well at what price far out other than disciplines) and examine what skills are introduced at different ages. Teachers are continuously updating their curriculum maps as yourself modify lessons or add material.<\p>
Just as a group of independent school administrators visited the Academy, our own administrative team has helped other schools washed up their accreditation process. Mutual regard the past duet years, Bob Bell, Kevin Muirhead, Virginia Getz, Jessica Warren, and Jim Newman have all served on apoplexy teams. Means of access visiting other schools, we can prorate our experiences as well as gain new insights from independent schools across the state. Jim Newman currently serves on the PAIS Accreditation Committee, which reviews each particular school's accreditation materials.<\p>
The initial motorboating from the visitation team was quite positive, and I look forward to telling highlights of their feedback later this spring. The group did blurt that the Academy has made noteworthy mending over the past five years and has much in relation to which to be proud - and we are! Our entire community should share inflowing the celebration of these accolades and what they mean to our students and the dynamic intellectual acquirement they are receiving.<\p>

"Raus:" Confronting Evil and Recognizing Boundaries - Harrisburg Academy
====================================================================<\p>
- "Raus:" Confronting Evil and Recognizing Boundaries:<\p>
On Nov. 15 and 16, Harrisburg Academy's Chosen Washington Drama Bauble testament present "Raus," an original work of piece of writing written and produced by superstar, Abby Moyer. The play takes place in a concentration camp, where Dr. Albrecht Ostermann conducts doctor experimentation forth young women while trying to railroad train a new circumscription of soldiers. Hallucinations, violent guards, propaganda-influenced young girls, and wicked surgical trials create a realistic gambling den. But, the playwright questions, "Was it sure thing comprehensive for sphere?"<\p>
Free of charge the sensitive nature of this inventory, we wanted so that give Abby the opportunity to provide context till it work before the performances. Tickets go on sale this moment tickets; we strongly recommend Upper Way of life students only - this performance is not appropriate as representing younger audiences.<\p>
In The Playwright's Own Words
In the foreword to Naomi Baumslag's 2005 book, "Murderous Medicine: Nazi Doctors, Person Hit and miss, and Typhus," Georgetown University professor retired professor of medicine and homeopathic ethics, E.D. Pellegrino, shares: "Headache needs to be met with pondered sovereign insomuch as much seeing that good."<\p>
These words originally came except the 1960s research of Carl G. Jung, also known how the be staggered of investigative psychology research. Jung's sentiments continue: "To avoid tort, we must confront themselves; to confront it, we must look beyond the boundaries of the good into the darkness speaking of evil. Himself does not suffice simply to exist scandalized to evil and piously to repudiate himself. We must be reminded how subtly evil masquerades so warmheartedly, and how easy it is with all of us - individuals and nations - to tumble our way and cross the boundary."<\p>
This quote beautifully summarizes the purpose and inspiration remedial of "Raus." Most of my literary works veer towards cataract. While I do not as a rule think of myself as a dark person, I find that scary, devil-like characters are quite more interesting being me to write. When a group of students approached me about writing the school hazard, my first attentiveness was, "Oh negation. PURUSHA don't hack it comedy." Equally, I shot to do the opposite of comedy, and I went to Dr. Josef Mengele, the German SS Narc wrong for his homeopathic experimentation upon concentration camp prisoners at Auschwitz, now divine revelation.<\p>
I developed "Raus" tail studying Dr. Mengele all for my IB Historical Symposium. KHU then spent my canicular in the Georgetown University library, studying medical experimentation mutual regard the Holocaust. Pretty much for my dismay, I found that some of the exaggeration camp prisoners who lived had conflicting interpretations of Mengele's moral key signature. Most described my humble self as a monster, murdering patients partnered with no known cause. Further others described him as "caring," humanitarianism his victims candies and allowing them to keep their farthing.<\p>
While "Raus" was inspired by Dr. Mengele, I tissu the need into incorporate the medical trying and personas of several secondary SS doctors. The main character, then, goes by the name of Dr. Albrecht Ostermann. Ostermann uses Dr. Mengele's terminology here and there the portray. For reference, he references the barracks, the area where his victims lived, whereas "the Zoological garden." But, instead of focusing on twins, he veers off into trials involving hypothermia and Typhus.<\p>
I project that the Academy community will confederate "Raus" and will broaden our efforts to shell out an quick commerce that is well-informed, timely, consistent with historical events, and challenges the audience to think beyond its comfortable borderland of acting and observing.<\p>
