(Wizards SPOILERS)
Thank you Wizards, thank you so so much. And Guillermo del Toro, I don’t know if it was intentional but nonetheless thank you. I will be discussing spoilers in continuance, so please skip now if you have not seen Wizards: Tales of Arcadia.
For years, and to this day, I still believe that Tales of Arcadia is in the same universe as How to Train Your Dragon, or at least DreamWorks Dragon’s Race to the Edge. I made a post before in 2018 of all the cameos in Trollhunters that pertain to HTTYD. You can view it here,if you’d like.
But Wizards, provided the biggest cameo of all, from one of the newly introduced characters.
Archie, the Familiar.
Voiced by Alfred Molina, who also voiced Viggo Grimborn in Race to the Edge. So yes, it could just be that they employed Molina to participate in another show. But I disagree. Before Wizards, the biggest hint you had is the plain fact that Blinky, AARRGGHH!!!, and Draal were playing Maces & Talons. It’s not established whether the game is confined to the Barbaric Archipelago, or if it’s a global game that existed in the time period of Camelot and the Vikings.
I know that Alfred Molina is capable of doing other voices, examples being the armadillo in Rango, and Professor Knight in Monsters University. Or even Mr. Freeze in DC’s Harley Quinn. He is capable of doing other voices. Yet, Molina didn’t alter his voice to sound like another person, it truly sounds like Viggo.
So here’s what I’m lead to consider based on my beliefs and the many cameos as proof: When Viggo passed away, he was reincarnated as Merlin’s/ Douxie’s Familiar.
I’ve got more evidence for y’all. Steve inquired why the cat was wearing glasses. All Archie responds with, is bad eyesight. And why would he have bad eyesight?
Recall this?
While the show never made it clear whether or not he could see out of that eye, well the melanin has dissipated, and I don’t think someone can still see after having been splashed with lava. Hence, there’s a connection.
Next, Archie wasn’t just a talking cat. And his transformation wasn’t just sprouting wings. He says it himself, he’s a dragon. Who also can breathe fire, which has proved useful in some situations.
Perhaps coincidence?
Well let’s put it like this. If the Familiar truly had a past life, where this person may have been close to dragons... wouldn’t the person when passing on want to embrace the form he had come to find peace with?
And look at the spines when he assumes dragon form. Don’t those look like a familiar dragon? Particularly with black scales?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Sure Molina could have been invited to VA, but the similarities between Archie and Viggo are clear. The voice, the alternate form, the need for glasses. There’s a possibility that Viggo was offered the gift of reincarnation, since he redeemed himself in the day before he died. Not necessarily Hel, but not necessarily Valhalla either. Offered a second chance, to live as a seemingly immortal cat who could shapeshift.
