Christian had been truly blessed in the past few weeks. He’d found multiple people offering assistant jobs, taken on a few interviews, and most recently, he’d gotten a ‘callback’ of sorts to speak with the lead costume designer for the broadway Pippin revival... the same damn musical his boyfriend was headlining in. It was almost serendipitous when Christian was officially signed on as the costume design assistant, and thankfully the job gave him a great check with not-too-overwhelming amounts of hours. He was still really feeling the PA job with Noelle and was feeling that out, and hopefully he could do both. He was just trying not to overwork himself again. But his two weeks had finally been put into the law firm, and he was headed to the first rehearsal they’d be doing actual fittings at.
The thing was, Chris hadn’t actually told Connor yet. Call it a surprise, call it not wanting to take away his boyfriend’s shine at getting such a big role... he just hadn’t wanted to bring it up in the wrong moment. And then he was in the hospital and uncertain if they’d even keep him on when he’d missed a meeting. But here he was, waiting to go through with fittings at a very casual rehearsal. It was a read-through where everyone was sort of sitting around in comfy clothes, making notes, having a general talk on character motivation. And fittings and measurements would come at the end. Which was perfect- Christian could surprise his boyfriend right at the end of rehearsal and whisk him away for a late lunch out at the nearby coffeeshop.
So when it came time, Christian and the lead costumer both grabbed up their materials from the back room, heading off to the rehearsal room to get some measurements. The lead costumer, Sean, was first to talk. “Hello everyone- I met you all when we had our first rehearsal, but we’ve recently taken Chris here on as our assistant. He’ll be taking care of a lot of details, helping with measurements and sewing and is basically my second in command. If you guys have any questions, either of us can answer them. We’ll be introducing you all to our seam team as we get closer as well.” Chris was grinning and gave a quick wave to the cast, a measuring tape hanging around his neck and a notebook tucked under his arm, reading glasses on and a pen behind his ear. “Connor Shapiro, why don’t I work on you first? C’mon over, buddy.” Chris teased, and Sean gave them both a grin before heading off to work on a few others.
