WHY IS A CHH MC COPYING MIGOS? It's 2017.... Why can we find our own voice? To quote @amishobaraka off his last album "THE NARRATIVE": 'If I wanted to hear DRAKE, I would just listen to DRAKE!'. Still, even now, Christian emcees or emcees that are Christian that range from the most 'lyrical' to the most 'trap' are copying the flow, style, vocal inflection, signature cadences and trademark ad-libs of their secular counterparts pretty much verbatim, and yes, I have addressed this before, and yes, new styles of rap are often copied by the masses, but to completely BITE the ENTIRE RHYME PERSONALITY of another artist to point YOUR VOICE is near unrecognizable is another thing entirely, and in 2017, I've already seen major examples of that, and it blows my mind that it's 1) still happening and 2) allowed to happen. Of course not everyone is guilty of this, rappers such as @iamchrismusic_smm, @iamthacorner, @armondwakeup, @eshonburgundy, @beleafmel, @pray4jgivens, @prophiphop, @mahoganyjonz, @socialclubmisfits, @bizzle and @datin_tripled have distinctive voices and styles no one else can lay a claim to. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for others who occasionally or repeatedly fall into that bad habit. The worse part of it is the fact that the CHH audience allows it to happen, and they do it for two main reasons: 1) Often times, a lot of fans don't listen to secular rap so they champion what they think is innovative, when the truth is, he/she just 'jacked' Kendrick Lamar and 2) They just stopped listening to FUTURE, so they need a quick alternative, which is cool to a degree, but what does it say about Christian hip-hop's ability to innovate and not just imitate? Some many questions... So little answers.... Leaving us with very little originals. Can we change that in 2017? I believe that God has given us the gift to do so. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR PLATFORM Social media is the gift & the curse, and it's even more so for Christians. It's a "gift" because we have the potential to bless, inspire, educate, entertain, encourage and rescue people with one simple post that has the potential to go viral & reach millions across the world, or at the very least, reach a substantial audience or even just that ONE SOUL who desperately needed what you had to share.... The "curse" comes when the message behind your post is misinformed, easy triggered, dangerously emotional, not completely thought out, inauthentic and a misrepresentation of who you are & who you belong too, and it's even more of a curse if your "soapbox" is endorsed by a wide audience. An audience that hangs on your every word and has NO DESIRE to check you because 1) they're afraid to do so or 2) the rhetoric being spewed encourages their depravity, ignorance, hatred & carnal natures In 2017, we CHRISTIANS, DISCIPLES, BELIEVERS OF THE GOSPEL, "SAINTS" etc. etc. need to be even more cognizant of how & what we share on social media, especially if it's a popular or unpopular opinion of the world we currently live in. I'm not saying "APPEAR AS HOLY AS POSSIBLE" because that's not authentic, especially if we're doing it strictly for appearances, but when it comes to everything from the racial divide to President Trump to popular culture to sexual orientation, let's make sure that whatever we say on social media! (in terms of encouragement, protest or evangelism), pray that it is rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, pray that it is administered with grace, pray that it is well informed & well studied, pray that your biblically sound Pastor can back it up & not rebuke it and pray that your words will ultimately lead someone to the salvation & sovereignty of JESUS THE CHRIST Have fun, but be responsible.... QUEST AWARDS 2017: MY FAVORITE NON HIP-HOP ALBUMS OF 2016 - PART TWO In no particular order, these are the rest of the non hip-hop albums I thoroughly enjoyed & played the most during the year 2016, albums that not so low-key inspired me artistically as a Christian artist, even though they were not necessarily Christian albums KILLSWITCH ENGAGE - INCARNATE : @jesse_d_leach & co. came back with another phenomenal metalcore album that addressed everything from depression to racism, plus Jesse's IG page was particularly popping, even when he was touring the world or with his lady. RIHANNA - ANTI : This was the first Rihanna album I ever bought simply because this is Rihanna's best album. Her singing was on point, she expertly remade a Tame Impala record and she dropped the killer sexy slows that I can't really utilize until I'm married, SMH. AVENGED SEVENFOLD - THE STAGE : This is a daring, explosive and challenging progressive metal album, and one of their best. Plus, Brooks Wackerman is a fine addition as their new drummer. TWENTY ØNE PILØTS - BLURRYFACE : Technically, this album dropped in 2015, but it ruled in 2016 with the carry over of the major hit "Stressed Out", the hit single of "Ride" and my personal favorite: "HeavyDirtySoul". This was their breakthrough record.
