WHEN AMONG WITCHES WIP INTRO

This wip has gone through so many transformations over two years, and I’m finally back at it, discovery writing to my heart’s content.

GENRE: YA Fantasy

SUMMARY: An 18-year-old werewolf is rescued from the streets by a coven of witches who are convinced she’s a witch, too. As she discovers more about the coven and its enemies, she realizes she may be in even more danger now than before.

INSPO: The Umbrella Academy, Percy Jackson, Steven Universe (oddly enough)

VIBES: witches, werewolves, cottage in the woods, death magic, Klaus-core, White Diamond-core, witches with history, mind-control, healing from trauma, secrets, lies, shapeshifting, spells, evil gnomes

THEMES: found family, sacrifice for the greater good

WARNINGS: kidnapping, death

STATUS: Draft 0, 12k

WIP INTRO

Better to Have Loved and Won

genre: lgbtq+ contemporary comedic romance

setting: a villa on the coast of mexico during a 5 week shoot for “chronically single”, a dating competition reality show

characters:

wren amper — the MC, a snarky 24 year old with a deadly diagnosis she keeps close to her chest. she simultaneously thinks this show is as dumb as it gets, and unironically sees it as her last chance for love

and so many more! the show begins with 11 singles including wren, and they each fill a classic dating competition show archetype. we have the white guy who thinks he can rap, the girl obsessed with one guy, the girl whose whole personality is that she’s from jersey, and more~

the story: wren has a deadly diagnosis, and goes on a dating competition show to give herself one last chance at love. she experiences manufactured drama, her own physical decline, and a real budding romance as she reckons with mortality and the truthfulness (or lack thereof) in the “better to have loved and lost” adage.

status: as of 12/27/22, I am 3 chapters through the first draft.

Just started draft 2 of Jack Finch Believes in Ghosts!!

In my first draft I set up a whole plot point that I forgot to follow through with, so I’m editing to include that, and I’m rewriting my two weakest chapters.

Next step after rewriting is to go through and fix all the 3,000 errors I marked on the hard copy.

I changed Jack’s last name to Finch and I’m considering including it in the title:

WIP introduction: Project Skirt

This WIP is my second novel! I started it 5/27. I will be posting excerpts and chapters here, so please comment + to be added to the tag list!

Summary:

A single tweet is tearing Frankie Blasko apart. Having qualified for this year’s winter Olympics, the queer nonbinary figure skater expressed their frustration with being forced to wear the men’s uniforms, tweeting, “lmao what if i wore a skirt to the olympics??? power move”. They go viral in just a few hours. 

It becomes clear that if Frankie doesn’t wear the skirt, the queer community will feel deeply betrayed. If they do wear it, they would risk losing both their career and their one shot at earning Olympic gold. 

Now, Frankie has to decide which part of their identity to save, and which part to let go of forever. Aided by their friends Ro and Felix, and forever frustrated by their rival William, Frankie navigates the difficult life of an out-and-proud athlete in a world that might not be ready for them, but one thing is for certain: they are going to shake things up.
