Consensus 2026 made one thing very clear: digital assets are no longer operating at the fringe of financial services. Institutional adoption has moved from exploration to active engagement.
The change in tone was impossible to miss. There were far more institutions — and far more suits — walking the conference floor than in prior years, reflecting a meaningful shift in mindset across traditional finance.
A few signals stood out immediately:
• The first booth attendees saw upon entering was S&P Global
• J.P. Morgan/Kinexys appeared to have one of the largest booths at the conference
• Frank La Salla attended Consensus for the first time as CEO of The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), which also hosted a standing-room-only roundtable featuring DTCC, Euroclear, Clearstream and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG)
Not surprisingly, RWA tokenization remained one of the hottest topics throughout the week. The Bullish acquisition of Equiniti generated significant discussion and reinforced the view that the infrastructure race around tokenized assets is accelerating.
Stablecoins and payments were also heavily represented, particularly among early-stage companies.
Cross-border payments remains one of the most tangible and commercially viable blockchain use cases, with no shortage of startups focused on improving settlement speed, reducing costs, and modernizing payment rails.
AI was everywhere as well. Nearly every company is discussing how AI can transform workflows, insights, operations, and customer engagement. One of the more interesting themes was the rise of “Agentic Payments” focused on the convergence of AI agents and stablecoin-based payment systems.
Miami was packed, perhaps due to the cancellation of Token2049 in Dubai, although the conference itself did not feel quite as crowded as prior years. Much of the real activity happened across the 100+ side events, which created competing agendas and difficult choices.
A few events that stood out:
• The Tie's event at the Bass Museum was highly institutional and very well attended. A bonus: walking through the museum’s empty galleries. What a treat.
• @Sui Live, sponsored by Mysten Labs, was packed with developers building on the Sui ecosystem. I caught a great session by Mustafa Al Niama (He/Him/His), Matthew Horne, CFA (Fidelity), and Gabor Gurbacs (Open Assets) on the migration of $100T in RWA assets on-chain.
• DTCC’s roundtable was one of the strongest institutional discussions of the week. It was a great reunion with Jørgen Ouaknine of Euroclear, Thilo Derenbach of Clearstream, Robert Baksa of Ripple, and Kaj Burchardi of BCG, as we reflected on the initial DASCP.
• Gamma Prime's Tokenized Capital Summit where I spoke on a panel
Bottom line: The conversation has evolved materially. The industry is moving beyond experimentation and increasingly focusing on infrastructure, interoperability, payments, and scalable institutional adoption.
