I'm trying to softmod my New Nintendo 3DS XL, and I've hit a wall when it comes to the internet browser part of the instructions. It keeps crashing to the 3DS main screen. I've been sold the line "it's surprisingly easy to do" every time the post with the instructions come up. I feel lied to. If I can't get this shit to work, I'm going to end up needing to do the more esoteric instructions, which sort of defeats the "surprisingly easy to do" idea, which makes it not worth bothering with.
I can't find an active modding community that isn't nintendo specific so i'm throwing this out there! i'll die before i go on reddit
So i have a really old playstation2 slim that was my mom's, she probably got it at launch, and it's having some trouble reading discs. It has been in a box for several years, but it was doing pretty good at least five years ago (last time i recall using it, maybe add or remove an year) and we did use it regularly in the 2010s.
I dug it out because i found out we have a Kingdom Hearts disc (pirated, it's important) and while the console still works incredibly well, i could not get it to read the game. I tried cleaning the laser and the disc itself multiple times, then got suspicious of the disc and tried a different, still pirated, game. Same resault. Tried an original GTA San Andreas, didn't read. Before i could panic I tried a movie (Madagascar 2 fyi) since i know it reads them and it did! It played well! So like wtf!!
We tried a different original game, monstertrux extreme arena edition, and it worked. Tried a pirated Surf's up, it didn't. Same for any ps1 still pirated game. Okay now i'm confused. I looked for more original games and it only reads the black and blue discs with some exceptions (a Rayman that doesn't read if put while in the menu but reads if the console is booted with it already in, but only shows a black screen; Syphon Filter 3; a mysterious "demo one" disc). Any original that isn't blue or black, doesn't read. And no pirated disc reads at ALL, apart from a Madagascar game that read only once and when i tried it again it didn't.
Funny thing i found out later: my mom got it MODDED. She got it modded to read pirated games. And since she got it modded probably near launch when she bought it, it's not a convenient memory card mod, but an internal one! That probably managed to die just as i found out we have Kingdom Hearts! But it still doesn't read any og disc that isn't black or blue so something's wrong with it still.
Is there any information out there of the type of mod she might've got? So i can maybe look up a fix that doesn't necessarily require me to interact with real people (i'm afraid of what i could get charged for this)? Also is it disc or disk
Finally completed this project!! Really really happy with how it all turned out 🫧🐠🐬✨
Waiting for my stickers and charms to come in for decor, but the system firmware is all set up!! I rlly love the theme I have on the home screen, and my favorite games so far have been infinite Wordle and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 😁
Back at it again with the DS posting
Decided to mod the console! Ordered a DSPico and I'm hoping it goes well... I have pretty much zero experience with this kinda thing, so wish me luck!
Ps4 disk drive troubleshooting
I had my ps4 since 2018, it was a used console, amd had many many issues over the years, but i always managed to fix it.
a few months ago (at most a year ago), the disk drive stopped pulling in the disks, and im not sure why. I try to insert the disk, and it doesnt nove, no noises are made. Ive taken apart the console, the mechanical arm seems to be moving fine, the spindle gets magnetized fine, the mechanical aspects seem fine. I cant seem to find anything unusual, like moisture, or the signs of a short. Yesterday i verified yet if the switches at the back of the drive work.
These are the switches that the mechanical arms are ment to push, and that signals the rollers to spin. I opened the disk drive, again, and found that yep, the switch is pressed consistently
I should also mention that the tiny spring that holds up the disk eject is missing due to a previous repair, but i believe its not crutial, as the drive worked after i lost it.
Anyway, I decided I won't be ordering a new drive, ill wait until I can homebrew 13.50 firmware.
Might buy a Wii U so I can throw some custom firmware on it
