in a very short time, mina has learned to no longer be surprised by quite a lot of things that once would have surprised her enormously. ghouls, giant scorpions, the continuing popularity of atom bomb baby-; she no longer so much as bats an eye at it.
the yao guai sitting both passively and contentedly, however, remains enough to render her nearly speechless. “uh-,” a cough and a loose gesture towards it, “i’m guessing that one’s your’s?”

“you ever think about heading out for a while yourself? something tells me you can pack a punch.” she feels practically allergic to diamond city by now, is itching to be free of it every time she steps within the wide gates long ago used for so different a purpose. how ellie manages to stand it is beyond her and a part of her is almost jealous. she’s been restless since the vault. “you know, get someone to take over here for a week or two, maybe team up with nick and solve a nice mystery or two.”

“it’s a nice place you’ve got here,” mina nods thoughtfully and she blinks as the acrid scent of chems swiftly hits her. it’s not an entirely unpleasant smell, just strong, and it seems to cloak most of goodneighbour and certainly hancock like perfume. “people feel safe here, can’t say that about many other places in the commonwealth.”
it feels strange to be here, surrounded by the skeletons of buildings that had once been familiar, streets she’d walked what doesn’t feel like all that long ago, and yet have it seem entirely alien. “seems like you’ve done pretty good by your people,” mina adds and there’s the faintest shadow of a smile now, “it’s all quite an aesthetic.”

they are quick to shake their head, mouth already flapping with explanation: “i’m not them. i’m not them. i’m not.” b.j. only needed to exchange one look with the survivor to know it had been a loss on the heavier side, perhaps recent. they backtrack until they are pressed against a door, cold and locked shut.

“i’ll eat it.” hunger is a falsity that only b.j. cares to indulge. they can’t understand why. perhaps it’s because humanity makes food look so damn good. they glance at the potted meat, and then to the face that holds it. “unless you want to.”

curiousity killed the cat, etc, etc -- and yet nóirin can’t help but wonder, can’t help but ask questions. it’s in her nature, and while it may lead her to trouble some day, she’s certain that it won’t be at the hands of nick’s pretty brunette secretary. “ nick informed me that you you spent your childhood in goodneighbour. what was that like? ”
