Garreg Mach, as always, is trending ahead of the curve! The latest fashion to sweep the grounds… magical bubble shields! Never mind that they’re unwieldy - they’re the ultimate form of chic and protection from all harm. In fact, rumor has it the inventor is handing out a reward to any who can prove they’ve damaged the spheres. [Grants Heavy Armor +1]

The news of a brand new shield swept through the monastery, not failing to catch the ears of the Imperial Princess. When she heard of its name, though, Edelgard couldn’t help and raise an eyebrow. A shield was meant to be sturdy, protecting its wearer among the most crucial of times. Could a magic bubble shield do that? Spells or not, she figured she would give it a glance.

Making her way towards the training grounds, she found herself greeted by quite a number of students fascinated by the newest shield. The inventor spoke words of praise, boasting about their latest project. ‘Here lies the next form of fashion and safety!’ Edelgard never concerned herself with a shield’s aesthetic and she had no intentions on starting now. No axe or lance would sweep past an enemy simply because they were too fascinated by a shield’s outer looks. If that does happen to be the case, the princess would find her opponent much too easy to overpower.

Spotting Constance among the group, Edelgard placed a hand on her hips and side-eyed the shields as she approached her: “Ah, Constance. I suppose you are also here to observe this shield? I fail to see why the inventor emphasizes its appearance so much, but I certainly hope it lives up to expectations.”

          If she merely wanted to pose for the image-capturing device, there aren’t any rules that prevent one from doing so alone... This thought is what rests at the forefront of Alfonse’s mind whilst awkwardly standing within the photo-artifex’s line of sight, appearing as if he wished to fully vanish into the folds of his cape rather than join the former noblewoman. Surely any of the ball’s other attendees would make a better partner to suit her interests, so why had she chosen him?

          Chosen him she had, however, and he smiles weakly as the device works its magic, transferring their likenesses onto paper. One copy he hands to her, tucking the other away to take with him upon the night’s end; half-raising the hand with his signet ring for Constance to see after a moment’s pause. “ Are you gathering stamps for your card, by any chance? If you have need of it, I’d be happy to oblige. ”

"What, ya never just saw somebody interestin' and thought hey lemme go meet them?" Tina laughs and grabs her lovely victim by the arm, dragging her toward the dining hall. "'Sides, I'm new here. Sure I got Lady Linoan and Patty and Sara but that's like three people and I'm gonna need way more friends than that if I'm gonna start my own lil' girl gang."

She stops as the pair passes by a window to look outside. It's a gorgeous day, even for it being winter, with the sun high and shining in the sky. Tea was fun and all but the cleric is quick to bounce from idea to idea. "Oh man but what if we went and took a walk instead! It's been too ding dang cold and dreary that I haven't got to explore everywhere yet. Bet there's all kinds of cool places to get lost in! Whaddya think?"

There was a reason she was supposed to talk to this particular person. But the excitement of someone new to talk to and places to discover has distracted Tina completely from the task at hand.

THE FATES MUFFLE CONSTANCE’S VOICE when the first onslaught of arrows break through the air.  ophelia’s mind registers the warning in their friend’s words only when the iron head of an arrow sinks into their stomach, seconds before their horse begins to startle at the threat ringing around them. hooves rise and fall off the ground, kicking up earth and grass as ophelia tightens their grip both the reins and the arrow piercing their skin.  the wind hisses, the earth trembles, and ophelia is nonetheless a child’s ragdoll against the horse’s mighty fright.  they hit the ground before their horse does; victim to the sight of the fleeing mount and their equipment still clipped to its satchel.

an ambush, of course.  pale eyes flicker from face to face, the familiar and unfamiliar on the battlefield.  few yards away stands the courageous lady of nuvelle, an open fan sharp in her grip.  ophelia looks away, certain of her safety, and turns their attention back to themselves.  the arrow’s shaft has snapped in half from the fall, though nothing has stopped the thin bleeding from beneath its iron.  no matter the pain, ophelia presses their hands against the ground and flips back to their feet.

“   lady constance!   ”   they yell,   “   assist me with the recovery of our healers!   ”   for their group had been further behind the mages; the fairer ones of magic and soul.  constance turns to them but does not respond.  ophelia must imagine the dread that breaks her expression.   still, an order had been given, and ophelia quickly moves to fulfill it.  turning on their heel in preparation for a sprint, though the momentum only benefits the heel that slams against their chest.  chosen one hits the ground right as flames spark above them, bursting immediately in a flurry of color.

boots and heels kick up dirt during the scuffle and ophelia, safely rolled a few feet away, barely has time to rise from the ground when a hand reaches low to assist them; the fabric of a once perfect glove torn into strips of damp cloth.  a glance up proves to calm their anxiety.  constance smiles down at them, pride alight in her gaze despite the blood seeping into her dress and its perfect sleeves.

there is little time to comfort and heal, so ophelia does not.  instead, they grin, take the outstretched hand’s help, and wink,   “   i never once doubted your skill, lady constance of eclipsed stars.  your wounds will not lead you to fall, ja?   ”

and constance laughs at that, refusing the claim eagerly.  it is all ophelia needs to quell her guilt, but not their own.  still, there are healers to find and enemies to strike down.  heroes never have time to idle; the two mages allow tracks to guide them into the forest, where another quest awaits them, away from one battlefield and upon another.

               "  IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE ?  "    with a question on her tongue and bags in hand, she points at the girl then vaguely at the marketplace stands.  the student asked for her aid as she hopped from shade to shade like a vampire of sorts until it was finally sunset. the night began to rise and the street lamps blazed to life. the hustle of the evening market died down as the sun kissed the horizon it’s farewells. the mercenary turns to the other seeing her demeanor has changed ,  she pays it no mind and continues to walk along side her.  marisa waves out her hand reaching for the bags the girl was holding onto and nods her head.   “    i’ll hold these for you if you want to look around more.  i don’t really have an interest in the market outside of basic necessities.   ”    she says with a shrug and a subtle sense of defeat.    “    i don’t really know about... fashion trends and what not... if it’s practical and comfortable i don’t care how it looks.  so i don’t pay too much attention to the rest of the stalls with trinkets and fabrics.  ”   her lips tug into a loose fitting smile. she grabs a hold of the student’s remaining bags, pushing her lightly towards the stalls.  “    ... so ,  go ahead and knock yourself out ,  kid.  ”

[ICE CREAM] - sender surprises receiver with ice cream / popsicles

“Is this really for me, my lady?”  Deirdre’s eyes widen as she is presented with a popsicle.  She’s never had one before but its bright red, white, and blue colors are so cheery and appealing that she cannot help but feel the excitement.

Happily, she takes the offered treat and pops it into her mouth.  Oh!  It is even more delicious than she imagined it would be!  The red is some sort of berry flavor.  Perhaps cherry?  It is so tasty, she doesn’t want to stop enjoying it!

Unfortunately, that leads to brain freeze.  Deirdre quickly removes the popsicle and waves her hand in front of her face.  “Ah!  Ah!  Oh it hurts!”

[ Laugh ] - Laughing makes for a natural smile, and so the sender tries to make the receiver laugh for the photo.

Constance is...nice? Bernie thinks she is, though she sometimes loses track of what the woman is saying when she launches into a tirade that Bernie can find a tiny bit hard to follow.

She handles being a noblewoman way better than Bernie ever has though, based on her declarations, and Bernie can't help but feel a little envious at that. Bernie wished she could carry her title half as gracefully as Constance did.

That's why it was so surprising to Bernie when Constance approached her at the photobooth with a joke of all things.

Bernie gawked openly at Constance for a moment before letting out a garbled, spluttering noise. She quickly covers her mouth before she can accidentally offend the other woman.

"C-Constance? I, um..." She giggles between her fingers. "I-um...thank you? But I don't think...I mean. I'm sorry!"

[ Meow ] - Headbands adorned with two cat ears, perfect for hissy felines in human suits.

First she was a bunny, and now she was a cat? The photo-artifexer... photo-artifactician-- the person who made the pretty papers had certainly come prepared. From what she could tell, some of the props even went home with the people who had worn them, though whether or not that was intended, she wasn't sure. Nevertheless, she giggled as she slipped the headband on. It sits rather awkwardly on her head, tilted a bit too far back in order to make room for her other headband, but all in all the little princess seems rather unfazed.

Maria giggles as she shuffles a few steps closer, posing for the photo-artifex with her hands curled into paws and pressed against her cheeks. For extra bounce, she kicks up one of her legs, torso tilting to counterbalance the gesture. Snap! In a matter of moments, their silly poses are preserved forever in such a simple sheet of paper.
