@constantvigilante Here’s the poem imagery!
Ok so for you I think I would start with old science fiction shows playing in the dark on the tv and the love of those aspects which make it both ridiculous and wonderful. So much of it is badly written, but that’s never the point, the point is that it’s about the belief that people can be better, that some time or somewhere there are people who choose to do the right thing in the face of overwhelming odds and then at the end of it all someone stands up and makes an incredibly over the top speech about community and brotherhood and inclusion and it’s so cheesy but fundamentally it comes from the right place, from a good, a brilliant place of love and hope and that’s why it endures, even if the special effects are terrible and the budget was like two quid, it lasts because of the people who made it who wanted to say something good.
But also making fun of it because it’s just corny sometimes and it’s good to laugh at something with love.
And then I might do packing up snacks for a long trip out, maybe to the coast, maybe to the mountains. But that would be linked into the ideas of light airy freedom and preparing something good for the future, preparing something good and concrete and looking forward so a time of joy and music and singing with people you love, and it’s that moment when you stop somewhere along the way and the sky is big and open and you’re just standing there in some nowhere spot, and you realise this is the place and the moment you’re going to remember for the rest of your life and you don’t even know why, but something in you says it’s important.
And I think then I might end with boardgames played with family, and as all games played with family, incredibly competitively. There’s shouting at the top of your lungs interspersed with incredibly tense moments and there’s laughing and screeching and falling over each other and there is just such an absolute comfort that comes from knowing someone so dearly that you can attempt to destroy them so utterly in something which really doesn’t matter, and there is mania over it all lasting long into the night, and snarky comments and groaning at losing and through it all there is love.
