The Art of Language Invention 10 Year Anniversary
The Art of Language Invention came out ten years ago today! ~:D If you want to hear more about how it came about and some other back story details, you can come to my YouTube channel at 2 p.m. Pacific (30 minutes from now!) and I'll be live streaming.
The new Dune movies are fantastic for constructed language dorks because of the great work of David and Jesse Peterson to make Chakobsa and the House Atreides Sign Language feel real. It helps with that feeling that the world of the movie somehow persists and extends past the camera, into places we're not looking at and will never see.
So I suppose that's why I spent an hour or so last night translating the first few minutes of Dune: Part One into my expanded form of Qunlat, salvaged from Dragon Age:
Keshlat kar raathom eb-ahissradar.
Ben-sataa ala Arrakis ebasit-daalnaan e tal-itwa rikaar. Tal-mer keta kesh... Ti vaarost melaanash ebasit-var imesaara.
E tal-ast itwali, ben-keshaani melaanash tomadim. Lethari sebodim na hera, ben-astali vat vah-art adim toh.
I promised that at some point I'd post a full grammar of the "Talat" dialect I created, and I still intend to do so. It's a flexible enough language now that it's capable of expressing complex ideals and more nuance in tone, and I find it enjoyable to work with.

Do any fellow conlangers have any words of wisdom about how to create a protolanguage… when you already have a conlang? How would you work out sound changes backwards? Yes, I understand I’m trying to climb up a tree ass first (as we say in Finnish) and that it would be easier to use the existing language as a protolanguage. Hence why I’m asking for advice. Would be very grateful for any tips or experiences!

Vulgar is a constructed language (conlang) generator for fantasy writers and role players. Create unique languages for your race of peoples
I really like this one because you can have as much or as little control over the constructed language as you want. From sentence structure or phonetics to force-including certain words, etc.
You can generate completely unique languages, languages based off rules you've created, or languages based off existing language. If you want a fantasy language that sounds German, but isn't German - it can do that.
It has a "translator" that is a little janky and struggles with translating some sentences but is still useful. It also has a word generator so you can generate new words if you need proper nouns or just new words. And because it tells you the rules of the language (how to conjugate, etc) you can then apply those to your own translations of things or any new words you create.
And I feel like, at least for a game like WSC, the inclusion of the various languages has been really fun for me and players. So I've really enjoyed using it.
