So, first, some context on Consumer Art.

Natalia LL was a polish artist who lived behind the iron curtain when this piece was made. This piece is usually considered an exploration of consumerism and feminism. How is the woman in it objectified in her consumption of phallic objects? It's almost a caricature of how the simple act of a woman eating a banana is seen by some men. Also, she consumes, but she is an object on a screen for us to consume.

It's worth noting that the banana the woman in this video seems to fellate would have been, apparently, something harder to get your hands on in Poland at that time.

It's a piece that's intentionally really suggestive!

I struggle to find it personally erotic though. Mainly because I get so bogged down in the political and social commentary of it.

But also... listen, man. I'm a complex kinda queer. I'm into women, but I'm not really into women giving blowjobs, y'know? I'm way more into that from dudes. I think being on his knees is one of the hottest things a guy can do. I just don't find women sucking food like it's a dick hot.

But still, getting in your own head about something can be a little erotic. For jerking off though?

Consumer Art

It is absurd to regard any form of art as a product. A product in the common parlance of "a tangible/intangible item produced for the consumption of its buyer." Art, for those of us that find it alluring or novel, does not usually capture the love and appreciation of massive audiences; it is reduced to turmoil, derision, or nascent cynicism. We find art in the niches of civilization--in the toilet bowl of social complacency, in the bowels of mediocrity.

The consumer culture derives meaning from blatant, ostensible narrative and over-produced commodities. Therefore, all art suffers from chastisement; it is interred beneath excessively marketed shit. Consumers are easily swayed, easily bought with loud sounds, bright lights and gaudy images; they are moths perpetually bumping their soft noggins against the street lamp.

Consumer art is here today, garbage tomorrow. It is short-term synaptic relief--sense masturbation: a visual/audible/haptic fast food diet. Whatever sells, the market tells us, shapes our culture, but after a year, a month, a day, an hour, do we care? Does it grapple with our humanity and shake the fuck out of our essence?

Consumerism, an ideology of shameless lies and hypocrisy, abstains from self-criticism in its banal attempt to seek approval from over-stimulated lemmings.
