The Container Store Large Shoe Box fits well the long way on a the stabdard 14 inch deep Vitsoe shelf. The raised lip in the front and back of the shelf, preserves clearance for the lid overhang in both the front and back, on these and they sit handsomely on the shelf with just a bit of space around them.
While these boxes have not been in continuous consistent production as long as Vitsoe (of course!) they have been the same for at least 30 years. And they are an incredibly affordable storage option at (as of this writing) around $3 each.

The smaller "Our Ladies' Shoe Box" size doesn't fit as perfectly but does still look and work fine; it does fit perfectly sideways on a 6in shelf but you can only have two so it's a somewhat odd look.
In either case, I like to label them with a business card-sized adhesive vinyl sleeve on the front. There are many similar options out there but these work well enough.
