Aesthetically Etsy
So, not going to lie, I’m a sucker for this thing we are seeing everywhere called “aesthetic.” There’s a type of content out there that revolves around this and honestly, I wouldn’t say there’s any practical value, story, emotion or so forth. BUT what pulls me in is how it’s actually pleasing to look at. Etsy does this well and has pulled me in and holding on until they empty my wallet. If you don’t know what Etsy is or know too much about it, Etsy is a P2P (peer-to-peer) e-commerce site and app with a specialty in handmade and vintage items and supplies along with some unique factory-manufactured items. There is something for everyone there and if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, many sellers offer custom items as well! I’m not sure if this applies to anyone else, but just looking at their social media is giving me all sorts of ideas of decorating my apartment, Christmas gifts to give and the occasional “aww.” Now to me, that has practical value and emotion but that could just be me! Who knows! It could also just apply to those who are like me and find value in this type of content. But! Their blog DOES have practical value as it offers many posts under a plethora of topics such as gift guides, DIY’s, decorating ideas, wedding planning and much more. Shown below are a variety of some of the posts you can come across on their blog. Honestly, I didn’t really know much about their blog until I started writing this so now I have a new blog to binge read and will probably go broke over trying to redecorate my apartment.
The social media site that Etsy definitely strives on is Pinterest as that is exactly what Pinterest is all about. On their Pinterest, you can find just about anything you need and any idea. Entertaining, pets, gifts for him, inspiring workspaces...it’s all there! It is constantly updated with new content added all the time. You can easily spend all day scrolling through their thousands of posts. And on top of the content that the posts are linked to, even the photos themselves are so aesthetically put together that it just screams “look at me!” in a minimalistic way. I actually started going through and observing their Pinterest posts and compiled my own list of DIYs I want to try out in the future. I also got some Christmas ideas for Dad! Shown below are some examples of their Pinterest boards you can spend all day searching.
Next social media site I want to go ahead and take a look at is YouTube. For a company that excels at DIY content, you can bet they have a great YouTube channel. Their YouTube is so interesting to go through and has so much to watch. You have your classic DIYs and how-tos but there’s also a playlist for how to get started on Etsy as a seller, the processes sellers go through to make their items and more. The videos themselves are done in such a professional manner that are compelling to watch. You can also tell they know their audience 100%! Everything they post appeals to the typical Etsy user. From upcycling to raspberry cosmos, they’ve reached their target demographic extremely well which is comsehting I can’t say about many companies who try too hard to appeal to every person out there and losing touch with their main demographic. They constantly appeal to the latte-loving, aesthetic and vintage connoisseur of the world. Check out one of their YouTube videos below about what makes Etsy, well, Etsy and if you’re like me, you’ll be hooked.
Granted, they could update their YouTube more often as they’ll go through spurts of uploading multiple video of the same topic, then nothing for a while. I personally like to keep exploring new videos and new ideas so it would definitely be nice if they kept up with that. At least I have Pinterest which is constantly updated!
Overall, Etsy’s social media is fabulous and makes me want to start crafting and even open up my own Etsy store! What shall it be? Cat sweaters? Macrame jewelry? Time to keep searching Pinterest until I get an idea!
On another not Tumblr fans, this will be my last post to this blog as my assignment is coming to an end! A post might arise from me every once in awhile as I’ve been getting a knack for this but my busy schedule might make that difficult!

Merrell vs Teva...Who Does it Better?
As someone who’s always looking for her next adventure, any brand related to both travel and travel apparel is appealing to me. Right now, I want to focus on two similar but different brands: Merrell and Teva. For a little background, Merrell is a brand that manufactures everything from shoes to clothing for all different activities like backpacking, working out and just working. But, they seem to be the most known as a popular brand for backpacking shoes. I personally have a pair and absolutely love them for hiking and camping. Teva is a brand that only sells shoes but they also have everything from boots, to sandals, to flip flops. Again, they have one thing they’re mainly known for and it’s sandals. While I don’t have Tevas at the moment, I will be purchasing a pair in the future for hiking and traveling.
Since both of these brands have a high audience base of those who are travelers and those who love adventure, the content they create revolves around that. Mainly focusing on their Instagram, they both offer content highlighting their products being used in the outdoors. Below are two examples, one from each page. When it comes to that specific type of content, they are still different in their own ways so you can easily distinct them. While both pages both repost from their customers and post their own content, it’s all different from each other, yet I’m drawn to both of them. Now onto another kind of content, Youtube videos. My favorite kind of content videos are ones that don’t necessarily make me want to buy a specific product, but it makes me want to go on an adventure or do a certain thing that would THEN make me want to buy that product. Merrell and Teva both do this extremely well.
I want to focus on each channel as an individual and then I’ll wrap around and tie them together. First, let’s start with Teva. Teva has a GREAT Youtube channel. It has everything from lookbooks, to adventures, to tips, to interviews and so forth. They aren’t just a shoe brand channel, they are an adventure lifestyle channel. I could watch their videos all day. One of my favorites is posted below. It’s lifestyle, it’s adventure and it throws in how Tevas get you through it all. And the best thing, it’s entertaining. It’s compelling. THAT is what content needs to be! If it’s not compelling and valuable, just throw it out. Here’s one of my favorite videos from their channel. It’s very lifestyle based while still implementing the adventure that their brand represents. It focuses on an artist and how he goes around finding objects to turn them into art while wearing his Tevas.
Next is Merrell. While also an adventure based brand, they manufacture both clothing and shoes. They are also focused on outdoor adventures and backpacking and using your Merrell products to explore the world. Their Youtube videos are all about the great outdoors and include everything from just exercising to backpacking. Their videos feature tips, how tos, new things with Merrell and straight up adventures. Their videos have something for everybody and show the variety of people and activities that can take advantage of Merrell products. I personally use my Merrell shoes for backpacking and hiking so of course, those types of videos would appeal the most to me. Here’s one of my favorites posted below. It really focuses on being connected to nature and I don’t know about you, but it makes me want to put my Merrell hiking boots on and explore. While it focuses more on the brand and the shoe, it’s amazing content and it’s captivating to someone like me who essentially is their main type of audience.
So, who does it better? In the end, that was the point of this post. And no, “better” does not imply who has the most followers or success, but who does it better according to me? What is most compelling, what makes me want to go buy their product without even thinking about it? Drum roll please….MERRELL! While I may be slightly biased because I love my Merrell shoes, I absolutely love their content. Don’t get me wrong, Teva is wonderful too, but Merrell just speaks to me more, especially their Youtube. Their content on their Instagram is what I just absolutely love to see and it has me itching to book my next adventure and THAT is success to me.
