An Overview Analysis on the Red Lights M/V by Hyunjin and Bangchan of Stray Kids
So we all know... what this music video is about. Besides it being a nod to some kinks and interesting sexual themes, it's also about obsession, compulsion, and possessiveness.
Now let's talk about the symbolic meaning we can find in the way Chan and Hyunjin portray their "characters," and how that helps tell their story.
In addition, we should all be aware that a big thank you has to go to the M/V design team, because everything from camera angles, to thematic messages, to storytelling, to the costumes they're wearing is all thanks to their efforts. And obviously Hyunjin and (even if he denies it) Chan for writing the song in the first place.
.
.
.
So, from the beginning it is made clear to us that the characters are being chained up by something or someone. But they go about trying to free themselves in vastly different ways. Chan rips at his neck, and tries to use brute strength. Hyunjin writhes and thrashes, and doesn't get much of anywhere with that. On the other hand, Chan is able to momentarily free himself. However, in the next shot he seems even more severely chained than the last. In short, each moment he's breaking free from his obsession, the next time he is drawn back in is worse. Additionally, Chan is filled with rage and confusion while Hyunjin seems to be more desperate, hopeless, and in reluctant understanding of his situation. He allows himself to sit in his obsession, even as he continues feebly to break free. In a way his response to it is much healthier.
Chan responds in boundless, uncontroled anger. Hyunjin attempts to understand his situation and approach it more calmly.
However, Hyunjin's situation seems to be much more dire. Chan is able to momentarily break free from it (even if it returns worse than before), while Hyunjin is drowning it it. This is the con of Hyunjin's approach.
Next let's look at the way they are bound. In the beginning they are both in chains, but Chan's chains seem to be bound to the floor, dragging him down, while Hyunjin's chains seem to suspend him, pulling him side to side.
This is later made even clearer when you have the scenes in which they are running. Chan is running away, his chains, while cold, impersonal, and heavy, have slack to them. They allow him to try to run and hide. Hyunjin is instead bound on a red string harness. It is more easily broken than Chan's chains, but they fit closer to his body, pulling him taught by suspended string on either side. Later, as he tries to run away, the string harness shows its durability by preventing him from running. It drags him down and back to its clutches before he can make it too far.
Chan's chains, however, let him run away as much as he wants, but they are always there, following his every move. Just a step behind him, cold and heartless, as they drag behind him on the ground. They clutch at his skin, allowing him to play his little game in which he runs away. But he can never escape. Never. They are always there, even if he runs himself to the end of the world. He can convince himself the chains are not there for a while, but soon the chain's heavy weight as it drags against the floor will slow him down. He will tire. He cannot run anymore. And the the chains will tighten, and he won't be able to run at all. He cannot even take one step.
Hyunjin tries to run, but can't. Everything is preventing him from simply escaping. The ropes are too tight to his skin. He thought they would be so easy to break, but they squeeze harder and harder every time he moves. They compress his chest and his lungs. He can't breath. He can't move. They're dragging him back and back and back. What he thought was merely holding him securely now holds his pulse between its fingers - and it just might go in for the kill. But not yet.
A hand squeezes around their necks. Choking and wheezing and coughing. The air is cut off, but Chan still fights, clutching at the hand determined to end his life, drowning him in its dark gaze. A gaze that makes him do things he hadn't wanted or intended. Hyunjin claws desperately at the hand, but it is feeble. His is submitting to his obsession. His desire. His compulsion. He is letting it consume him whole.
Maybe once those hands cradled Hyunjin and Chan's necks with the care and hope of something or someone close to them. But now those hands choke and cause pain. They bleed the life from them. And what happens now?
Well, we don't know.
It's over. It ends unsolved.

Dominion Leather
What can I say about all the items I have purchased from @dominionleathershop? The man is a true artisan! Everything is simply amazing. Thick heavy leather, rich smooth colors, solid hardware. All assembled with impeccable attention to detail. My photography skills do not do justice to his work. I took the liberty of modifying his Tumblr avatar to use as a watermark, I hope he doesn’t mind.
I ordered this 15 inch slapper/spanker on the 1st of September, had it in my hands on the 15th. Double layered for incredible impact, and two different textures for different flavors of sting.
I opened the box the this stunning Artemis Collar came in for the first time today. Why it’s been in a box for so long is a story for a different day.
Front on top, side and back below.
and finally, the very first sets of “Franken Cuffs” created in his shop. He said they are ugly, but I think he is wrong. True the colors are miss matched, but they are beautiful in their form, construction and function.
this set is sized for wrist’s. The buckle hardware shown on the top cuff and the security point is showing on the bottom cuff.
Below is the set that was sized for ankles.
I really can’t say enough good things about these!
