“And please look over your blocking for tomorrow, because what the hell was this mess? Remember, if you score bad on this play, you won’t be offered the chance to audition for our winter showcase.” Charlie yelled out to her students who were starting to pack up as the bell chimed signalling the end of another period. “C’mon guys, get lost! I don’t want another angry email from Mr Ray about how I ‘hold you guys hostage’ after class, it’s driving me nuts!” The drama teacher rolled her eyes as she shuffled all the kids out of her classroom. Once the mini classroom stage was emptied and the door finally swung shut, Charlie pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. This was the third class this week (and it was only Wednesday) who still wasn’t off book and had no idea what the blocking was - and the assessment was in a few weeks time. She loved all of her kids dearly but wow, they were all idiots. With a huff, Charlie grabbed her backpack and folders and made a beeline for her office. Thankfully the teacher had a free period right before lunch which meant two whole hours to get herself together and squeeze in a little bit of me time.
Once the woman reached her office, she smiled. She tossed her backpack onto the couch to her right and made her way to the desk. Luckily, as the head of the drama department, Charlie was able to have her own private office space and didn’t have to share it with the two other drama teachers who annoyed the shit out of her. Here she got to have peace and most importantly, quiet. As always the brunette got out her phone and checked in her family’s group chat. All her kids (yes, they may only be between 1 and 8 years younger than her but those are her kids) were either busy with school or work - as they should be, and Charlie informed them that she was going to pick up take out on the way home for them all. All her life, Charlie never felt close to her own parents so when she moved to New York and found people that loved her more than her own parents ever could, it meant the world to her. It meant even more that one of them was her own brother, the only blood family that hadn’t left. Charlie let herself get lost in her thoughts with a ghost of a smile on her face.
