How to find natives to chat with ?
Since the very beginning of my studies, I've always wanted to find a native Korean friend I could talk to, so I could practice what I have learned and get advice from someone whose mother tongue is Korean.
I tried different websites, and the one that worked for me is Conversation Exchange, so I want to make a quick presentation of it and how it works.
When you create an account, you have to complete your profile. You select you mother tongue, the language(s) that you're learning, and what your level is in these languages. You have to choose which type of exchange you're looking for, amongst three options : correspondance, face to face conversation, and/or chat (in that case you have to indicate which software you use). There's a description box, where you can explain what you're looking for, what kind of help you need, or if you just want to make friends, etc. These are the most important parts of your profile, the rest is about your name, age, country, all the informations usually required when creating an account online.
After that, you can start searching for a person whose mother tongue is your target language. You can use Simple Search, Advanced Search, and you can save your previous searches if you need to. When you've found a profile that interests you, you can send a message or start a chat.
The most difficult part is to actually find someone who will answer you. I've sent messages to 7 people since I signed in, and for now I only received one answer. And I have friends who haven't received any message at all, so I know it can be frustrating. Be patient, don't give up, that's my advice. There are tons of people who use this website, so eventually, even if it takes time, you'll find the good person.
Also, I highly recommand downloading the Kakao Talk app if you can, because a lot of Koreans use it and it really helps if they know you use it too.
Now, about my personal experience. The person who answered me has become a very good friend of mine. She is learning french, and we help each other to learn ; we share vocabulary, grammar tips, we correct each other about pronunciation... She is really really kind and patient, so I feel very lucky to be able to talk to her. Honestly, it's a great experience, and if you have the possibility to make such good friends, go for it. It makes learning so much better.
It's already the end of this post, (which was starting to become quite long already), so I hope it can be useful !
Have a good day, and study well !
