Em wasn’t sure what to say when referencing the day that anything and everything had happened a few weeks ago. That day she proposed to Peter? That day Mary had unexpectedly dropped her kids off at her house to babysit? Or the day that Peters Mum, Claire, had entered their lives again and asked Peter for money. She hadn’t been able to tell Mary about anything yet, because if she explained about Claire, and why she was so upset and concerned about the money, then the engagement would slip out, and she wasn’t ready to tell Mary that yet. She wasn’t sure if she even would. Maybe she would just run off and marry Pete then tell her once everything was done. Though that might end in her death, Mary would not be happy that she had kept it from her this long, let alone get married without telling her. She also couldn’t tell Mary about the money, because she hasn’t really figured out what Peter wanted to do in the first place, or what he was thinking. She didn’t want to push him to a decision, because then she would be walking right into the controlling girlfriend that Claire had labelled her as. But she did want him to make one, or at least talk to her about it. Hopefully things would resolve today, as the pair of them were on their way to Catherine’s kid’s birthday party. She knew Peter had caught up with her and Phil that day, but he hadn’t really shared what was going on, and she didn’t like being in the dark, it felt like he was going behind her back somehow. At the party Em would be able to talk to Cat and figure out what the hell was going on. The pair walked up to the front door and Em rang the doorbell “are you sure her kid is going to like the present? Mary said they would but now I’m second guessing myself. Is it too much?” she said to Peter, holding the fairly large box containing a remote control truck underneath her arm.
