Notice (Snow Mix) - April 2022
Having enjoyed immensely getting back into music making, I decided to revisit a couple of pieces I'd started half-heartedly messing around with during Lockdown in 2020.
This was the first one to get dragged out of the dark recesses of my hard drive where it had been languishing for two years and dusted off.
It was simply some melancholic backwards piano, looping around some crunchy beats. I found SackJo22's spoken word piece Notice on ccMixter and it fit the vibe perfectly. I'd called the original piece Snow, I have no idea why, it probably made sense at the time.
Reviews for Notice (Snow Mix) on ccMixter:
So trippy and chill. Reminds me of Boards of Canada
Nice arrangement. Beautiful for meditative movement. Thank you for setting my voice up in this sweet setting. Peace.
Love the gradual build and hypnotic beats. Very cool.
Roll The Credits (Kirkoid Mix) - January 2015
A mix I put together using samples to fit some vocals uploaded by BO Crew Lab to ccMixter. I gave myself some interesting visualisations making this track, especially in the second part.
I initially didn't like the first part, then I realised the vocals were slightly out of sync compared to the second set. I gave it a little tweak and suddenly it all slotted into place.

Toe tappin mix, K.
I couldn’t say better than TRF, perfect rythm, and good association with Bocrewlab.
My Inner Mystery (Kirkoid Mix) - November 2014
My remix of a track by Stefan Kartenberg, it was my entry in a 2014 ccMIxter competition. I remember I was a bit stuck to start with, then discovered an Indian drum track sample that made me think of thunder, so then I decided to add some thunder, rolling across the verses.
I took the stems and distorted some and flanged the rest. Initially the vocals were very phased, but then I came back to it undid that to made them stand out a bit more. Then, I missed the phasing so I redid the backing vocals to get the best of both worlds. I think now I need to make the distorted guitar louder.

Great great work!!!
As they say in ReBoot this is “Alphanumeric!”.
Quite a transformation, from source material to mix. Very inventive.
This is freakin crunchy fantastic… Auto tuned campfire music :)
Wow! Love your treatment. Has a great sound and feel — totally unique despite familiar sonic references. Great job. Thanks so much for being part of the ccMixter musical family!
So much amazing guitar work in this! i love the static and the driving acoustic tracks. feels like a modern day Simon & Garfunkel song - the use of the thunder is awesome. divine from start to finish.
A nice mix - thank you very much, Kirkoid.
This is amazing!
Robots Still Can't Sing - June 2012
Six years after I created him, I decided to revisit my sad little robot and continue his story.
Every now and then I get some feedback that really stays with me. The person who wrote the long piece about Master TT below was affected enough by my track to take the time to write about it. This is what it's all about.
The Robot Sequence Part 2.
Having learned to sing, the little robot makes his way back through the dank tunnels to the city above. Avoiding the Cold Humans, he eventually meets up with another robot in an old factory.
He establishes a direct link with the other robot and transmits the new code he has written that enables him to sing. The other robot goes dark, then comes alive again in a burst of sparks. It walks jerkily around the room, appearing agitated, then stops. And sings. Just a short burst, then it sends a quick message to the first robot. “We could have freedom too”.
The first robot nods then climbs a spiral staircase to the windswept roof of the factory’s highest tower. He grasps the tall communications mast that stabs into the night sky, and begins to transmit the code across the city.

Good story, good rhythm, K
I always enjoy your uploads. This is no exception. A cohesive groove that totally supports the story (which I love!). Bravo!
:D Years ago a friend of mine had a cd she got from a friend that had a friend that created music named Master TT. It was a weird kind of techno that used samples in a way I would never had thought off or even thought they could be used musically. I loved that cd but unfortunately the cd was lost and slowly as time past by the sound kept in my head faded away. But then “robots still can’t sing” is put on the web and it completely brought back that fantastic Master TT sound back.
Great beat here. I read the story while listening, really nice :) Congrats on the work, sounds good
Intoxicating groove and rhythm. clear, polished production. as each element builds by section, I'm pulled deeper into the track. brilliant work.
This is really great. I was immediately drawn to the title of this track and love the story line you provide. Great modem sound effect at the end.
Indeed a good and very inspiring flight! No turbulence, only good vibes :)
Love it. The story, vibe, and part one (thanks for linking to it!). Three cheers for the little robots! Those cold humans just don’t know where it’s at.
I like the old style electronic vibe, nice sounding mix, bravo.
Dude, that's amazing. It's a fantastic combination of noise and music - you could go harder and make it techno, but you in fact stayed on the musical side. Really special!!
Re- genre this mate, this is Electro. BTW, fav'd awesome groove, awesome mix!
Novus Orsa (Codeine Mix) - August 2010
Another older instrumental track revisited to add vocals. This time, Novus Orsa from three years previously.
I remember poking around ccMixter to find some vocals, and ending up with three that seemed to fit, so I used them all. They seemed to compliment each other, little did I know there was a remix event going on with a theme, an event that I then accidentally entered when I uploaded my finished track.
Reviews for Novus Orsa (Codeine Mix):
A work of genius! To bring elements so disparate into a cohesive whole like that, well…. I’m impressed.
HAH!!! Nice!
Very nice to listen to
Nice use of the source material. Thanks for including our voices!
Nice mash up, K
Wild Unbeaten Heart (Kirkoid Mix) - February 2010
This is a track I put together using a lot of samples to fit the vocal. It's one of the first times I listed most of the samples I used, demonstrating how I construct a tune.
Reviews for Wild Unbeaten Heart (Kirkoid Mix):
It’s amazing how many samples you used from different people and it doesn’t sound like mishmash! Kudos to you man, great track!
A very zippy track, and tight to boot. I agree with copperhead. Fantastic use of samples. Where have you been my man? Haven’t seen you ‘round these parts lately.
Cool, groovy track, and I like the musical metaphors. Although you’d be surprised what you can quantize. :)
If somebody writes a book titled “how to use samples to make a mix” this one should be one of the examples. I’m surprised, you’ve used one from my samples in FS.
Swanker (Tangent Remix) - April 2009
Having discovered the joy of using vocals in music, I started to revisit some of my instrumental back catalogue to see if I could find vocals to fit. It had often bothered me that I didn't have vocals for my tracks. This was one of those times, and the track was Tangent, a track I had recorded three years previously.
A band called Drip from Manila uploaded the vocals from one of their tracks, Swanker, for a remix competition. I mixed the vocal track into Tangent, and Swanker (Tangent Remix) was born.
It's interesting how much of the track gets 'lost' or 'covered up' by the vocals. The original track had none so I had worked to keep it interesting using just the sounds. Some of this doesn't come through in the remix version the way it does in the instrumental. Because of this, I decided to keep both in my active back catalogue and include both in my Chronology.
Reviews for Swanker (Tangent Remix):
I enjoyed listening to your track - the whole vibe was pretty cool. Thanks.
