What if dragons got their fire by eating phoenixes?
Well that could cause some problems, but tha’d also be cool!
See normally when I think of dragons fire break I assume it’s made one of three ways:
A combustion component, like methane gas’s from the stomach combined with a type of spark pouch what would light the gas as the dragon exhaled it.
A chemical reaction to something that reacts with air, bursting into flames (see above, combustion. This method just brings to question what the hell the dragons have in them that’s reacting to air this way in them)
But dragons using a phoenix to breath fire…
I’d see it go down in a few ways:
First the phoenix is kept as a type of livestock to keep them breathing fire, or a type of trade is set up between the two for a mutual benefit (perchance needing gold to hatch eggs???)
Or is a type of symbiotic relationship where it’s good for the phoenix to be eaten every few rebirths, like using the dragons stomach acid to give itself a good cleaning, and to keep the dragons “heart fire” healthy!
(Heart fire is the term I use to refer to dragons who have magic fire abilities)
If it’s more of a predator/prey thing I’d say that’s a little eh, seeing as a phoenix will just rebirth once it’s ashes are back together enough for the new chick to form.
So there’d have to be a reason for them to eat a prey like that…
Cause having dead weight in your stomach can’t be fun…
Maybe the phoenxi’s ashes act like a stomach cleanse for the dragon?
I like my trade idea, or symbiosis idea.
