here is my first attack for artfight: @porado's poseidon, honestly the design just slaps extremly hard & I am really proud of how he turned out :). If you feel generous check out their account! it won't hurt a fly (or a fish in that case)!

Given it's the Ides of March, realized I might as well post about this now.
So, here is perhaps THE coolest gift I've ever received from my brother. He bought it while out traveling, and goodness know how he got it through customs.
Because while you might assume it's some sort of cheap plastic souvenir....it really isn't. This thing's got HEFT. It's heavy, solid, and metal. The blade is stainless steel, and the only reason it's not cutting flesh is because I haven't sharpened it enough.
In short, it's rad as hell.
I use it to open mail.
But not just any old envelope. Whenever there's something that's going to be uncomfortable for me to deal with, anything that I'll struggle to approach, that my avoidant ass will try to put off for as long as possible....I bring out The Dagger. Whether it's overdue bills or medical reports or whatever makes me want to just leave it on a side table for weeks and weeks.
I'll go to the shelf and get The Dagger out of its case, and then dramatically unsheathe it. And then SLICE that mail open, dramatically, feeling heroic and brave. Because holding this thing, and wielding it, fills me with courage.
Also, when holding a dagger like this, some pieces of paper suddenly aren't as intimidating.
It's become a little ritual for me. I love using this thing, but I only allow myself to do so when I have to tackle this unpleasant task. So it's a little reward to myself for doing what has to be done. And it makes me feel strong enough to face the bad news that's incoming.
Is it perhaps not the most sane or well-balanced way to approach an everyday task that most folks wouldn't even think about? Sure.
But it works for ME. And that's all that matters.
Sometimes, the only way to cope with your own madness is to find the right insanity to counter it with.
Happy "stab a politician" day to everyone out there. May you all find your own ways to cope with the hurdles of life 🙂
